My wife and I got eloped to Tahoe the first time, then the following year did the whole wedding in the church... If I could have, I would have saved the money and just stopped after eloping! More money for mods!

Good luck and congrats!

Just don't break the bank unless to really have to. Once the wedding is over you don't want to be paying for it for years. I had a small local wedding at a church and used the extra $$ for a nice ring and honeymoon.

I guarantee you'll get "more mileage" when people comment on your wife's ring regularly than you would spending an extra 10k on a wedding. (In My Opinion =)

Default hawaii

I'd recommend hawaii, waikiki specifically, the guests will appreciate being able to vacation as well as attend the event.

Hawaii would be nice unless you had to pay for a bunch of relatives to fly in. My vote goes for Tahoe. It's a resort town and a lot nicer than Vegas for people who don't gamble. With Mexico, you still have the travel thing (of course unless your future in-laws and/or relatives aren't in Norcal).

congrats! do you have a budget planned out yet? i'd go off of that before i pick a place that might not be feasible. of course, if you had the moola, hawaii (maui or kauai).

[edit] doh, but you don't have hawaii as one of your choices. mexico is nice and inexpensive...but you have to REALLY plan when and where. wouldn't want drunken people crashing the wedding!

I live realy close to Tahoe, and there are some spots that are absolutly beautiful. You see a lot of weddings going on in certain spots, but I agree with these guys, maybe a cruis around the lake, (not too expensive) and the actual service somewhere near the water like maybe Sand Harbour or Kings Beach?!?

Good luck and congrats

We got married up in Tahoe too. Very small and didn't cost us an arm and a leg.

We have friends that are getting married (we have 4 wedding to go to next year) and each one has some sort of drama w/ money, family, the location etc.

My advice to you is keep is simple, be logical, have a budget AND it's your wedding (stay in control of all matters).

I always thought this was nice, especially if you both also enjoy outdoor activities like mountainbiking.

Get married where she wants to. You'll be happier that way!

En3d and HorsePowerForBrains,
PM me if you can help me out. My lady and I want to get married somewhere with snow and are leaning heavily towards Tahoe, probably someplace close to I-80 as it is fairly well maintained in the winter. Plus, my grandmother and Uncle live in Incline Village, so we may be able to have people crash on their couches. I'd love to hear any suggestions/advice you guys might have.

I think the actual place you are married in is probably more important than what state/city/country it is in.
You can probably find a nice place in any of the ones you have in the poll and others.

I have to admit I opened this post dreading that "Subaru Dealership" was one of the locations.

We did city hall in SF. Its as pretty if not prettier than most churches and its quick and convenient. We thought about vegas but in the end we thought it might be nice to have a pseudo pretty wedding despite it just being us and two other witnesses.

Some city halls can be surprisingly nice.

While we didn't use the place, when we got our marriage license a couple months ago in San Diego, the part of the County hall where they do weddings and issue licenses was much nicer than I expected, and even had a wall of windows with a great view of the harbor across the street. Much, much nicer than where they used to do it in the old windowless scuzzy county courthouse downstairs from the inmates.

So if you're up for a small, quick ceremony, definitely check on the local government spots before hand.
