Talking Legacy Taillight Mod (RoryB's Car)

This is the Tail end of RoryB's Legacy GT, these pix are really old, he's now got an exhaust, debadged, etc.
But I found the pix I took over the summer and wanted to show you guys to give you some ideas.

Paint the Orange Blinker Red!!!
Testors makes a Transparent "Candy Apple Red" that sprays on very nicely. Just have to remove the taillight, tape off the red / clear parts and spray away, 3 coats blended nearly perfect, and the blinkers are still bright!

It's a simple $4 mod and gives the car a really sweet JDM look! I did black on my Impreza and red on his, it looks sweet up close, you can't even tell we painted the orange part!

If this has already been done, just laugh at me!
Bry

Can you post some more detailed instructions? Did you just paint the outside lens? It's hard to tell in that picture.

Edited the first post with slightly more detailed instructions, my next try will be my other friends Black 98' GT. We're going to smoke all the red / orange parts (Center Section included) black to give it the B4 RSK look.

Another way to do this mod is to start painting on a sheet of clear contact paper with the paint. That way your painting isn't permanent and you can make sure you get a good even coat on the paper.

I've found the paint at just about every single Hobby Shop I've been to. I think Walmart even had it in the toy / model department.

It's a small can of Testors Transparent "Candy Apple Red" as for contact paper, most art supply stores carry it.

I'm sure it will eventually, but it's weathered pretty well in one of the hottest summers on record and lots of crappy weather thus far.
But for a $4 mod, you can always touch it up

Another option would be to get the Testors spray tint, and just tint the amber black. In the Legacy's case I would also tint the turn signal, as to give it a more uniform look.

Please tell me how to remove the tail lights. I have a new set of clear JDM tails, but I'm not sure how to remove the stock lights. Thanks for your help.

i'm not a huge fan of the red turnsignal. I have tinted my turnsignals and reverse lights on my Legacy (Like a VR6 Jetta's taillights) and it looks really classy and clean. Not to mention that I didn't even have to remove my taillights to tint them. I would post some pictures but the site I upload my images from doesn't exist anymore.

piker28- I sent my a picture of my taillights to you and also a picture of my headlights. I painted the inside of my headlight housing black and removed the orange insert. I'm trying to find some Audi corner bulbs for my turnsignals because I want them to appear clear durring the day and amber at night. The Audi bulbs are clear but light up bright amber. It shoudl look pretty slick.

to get the taillights off, you have to open the trunk, take off some paneling, unscrew 3-4 screws and pull the lights off.

I dont have any pictures from the direct front just yet. I'll be sure to post them when I do though. I've been too busy trying to find a front end for my car that doesn't nearly drag along the ground like mine does now that I lowered the car.

Nice Legacy. It looks super low. I really like your tinted tail lights.
I may consider selling my JDM tails and tinting mine like yours, as my car is black and it would look stealth. Thanks for the pics.
