Default Hmm, could 17x7s be legal DS for WRX?

I just purchased the 2003 Impreza workshop manual(s,8) from Subaru or rather Fuji Heavy Industries LTD. as it states inside the manual's cover. In section section 5, page WT-2 under wheel and tire system, general description, specifications, it lists the wheels and their specs, a 15 x 6 JJ, a 16 x 6 1/2 JJ, a 17 x 7 JJ all with offsets of 55 and the 16 x 4 T. There is nothing on the page that refers to any of them being other than a standard part. So if SCCA requires the shop manuals as documentation for standard parts, how can the 17 x 7 be considered illegal?

Because the wheels are an option (albeit port/dealer installed) on the vehicles they are listed.

They are not qualified for stock, even tho they are listed in the FSM.

They are not port installed, just dealer or end user installed.

So what can we use for documentation? The federal window sticker which in the past was honored is supposedly no longer credible. While I may not be capable of trophying, my wife is. I would be very upset if the car were protested for something that appears a "standard part" in the manual or for something removed like the spoiler which is shown as an option in the manual.

look in the autox rules thread for stuff that is illegal. Basically any OPTION is illegal. The spolier is a gray area, but no one got protested for it this year.

It's not as much an issue of finding the documentation to be credible, it's the method by which Subaru outfits their cars with the whole port-install/dealer-install nature of options on the cars... If they were FACTORY options, this wouldn't be so confusing... but the port isn't QUITE factory, and it's not quite dealer install, and it's all confusing to anyone who ever tried to set up a WRX for stock

BTW, Tom's car came with the optional can of whoopass... or at least Tom did. I'm still trying to find the documentation, but I'm not having any luck... PROTEST!!!!

-Chris, trying to inject a little humor, since everyone on the internet seems to be in a bad mood of recent...

Hey... what about me? No respect. I keep Chris on his toes on the West coast. I collected 18 ProSolo points. I even finished in the top 5 at Wendover Pro and Bremerton NT, although neither of those were shining examples of my driving. And I really sucked at the Atwater NT.

Hmm.... I guess if you don't live in Oregon, I shouldn't be someone you know.

"dude you beat me by 1.5 seconds with the same type of car" Hahahahaa... I'd protest Chris 4 or 5 times a year if that was the criteria.

Question O.Z. from factory?

I just watched a new shipment of 03' WRXs come off the truck at my local dealer. One of them had 17" O.Z. wheels on it and they were listed on the factory sticker. ($2100.00 option ) That would make them legal for DS, wouldn't it? Just wondering.

There's a letter out to Howard Duncan regarding this.
