Default TPS wiring help needed ASAP! :-)

Guys,
Trying to finish the wiring of the '99 ECU into the 1.8L car. Turns out our TPS has four wires instead of the three shown on all the diagrams we can find online and in print.

Can anyone help us out? We really need to know what each pin does. The engine is supposed to be from a '99 RS, but now, we're not so sure.

This is the last thing we need to wire before we try and start the car(except maybe a fire extinguisher).

Cheers! John

John, I just checked my 2000, and the TPS has three wires- the 2000 manuals concur as well . I can check the 99 manuals when I get to Exeter on Monday if you like.

Brian,
That would be helpful, although Wayne called me last night(thanks Wayne!) and told me that the fourth wire is probably a sheild ground and we just need to use a multimeter to figure out which wire is which.

If you can get us additional info, that would be great. The engine came from Canada, and was supposedly from a '99 2.5RS. The only four wire TPS I can find is from a turbo engine, and that diagram doesn't help us at all.

Wayne didn't tell me why he thought we had a four wire though....hmmm...

Cheers! John

The fourth wire might be an idle switch, that tells the ECU when you are at fully closed throttle... it's a Japanese thing, a lot of older Japanese cars had it, and some still do.

Strange thing is, NO '96-02 wiring diagrams show a four wire TPS on NA 2.5 engine. This is definitely a late model 2.5 RS engine.

Guess we have a strange aberration here...

Cheers! John
