An Oregon man got a little extra jolt with his java yesterday morning.

Tourist Mike Preiser was having his morning coffee in Blake's on Carrall in Gastown shortly after 10 a.m. when an out-of-control Subaru coupe slammed into his parked Subaru Forrester.

When the young coupe driver appeared to be trying to flee, Preiser, freelance photographer Dean McLean and some other Average Joes powered by a caffeine rush decided it was time to make a citizen's arrest.

"We all went chasing after him and when the guy didn't want to get out of his car and when he looked like he was trying to get the car started, they wrestled the keys away from him," said McLean, who snapped photos as the incident unfolded. "He and his girlfriend got out of the car and kind of meandered off to the side and bolted -- they were gone."

The pursuers found the couple hiding a block away in the doorway of a homeless shelter. Again the driver tried to wrestle his way to freedom.

"He started wrestling away and we put him on the ground nice and gentle," said McLean, who assisted Preiser and longtime Gastown resident Gary Allen in the two-point takedown. "The police were there about four minutes later."

McLean said the girlfriend appeared to have been drinking and there was an open case of beer in the back seat of the coupe.

The driver was taken into police custody, but there were no word on charges at press time last night.

"He [driver] just totally lost it [control] and how you could lose it with an all-wheel drive Subaru is beyond me," McLean said. "Just a kid with a car with too much power."

Wasn't me, I drive a wagon and drink too much bubble tea to be white.

And gosh, you can lose control in an AWD car? As people on the quattro list used to say, AWD gives you more traction, but 4x0 is still 0.

I'm white AND live in gastown and it wasn't me. You know what is sad, if he had of hit a junkie, nobody would have done anything

I know where this happened, its too bad he didn't hit any of the ricemobiles parked on the other side of the street.

I am UBER white, and I drive a Legacy so it wasn't me. Also, if it was me, I would have hit an impreza, not a forester.

Ain't life a biznatch? How do you lose control w/ a low powered slowbaru? Put a numbnut behind the wheels

It can't be me, because I would've used an '02 to hit another '02 RS...

Although, I think having the most intimate knowledge of the corner where this "incident" took place, I must come forth in the defense of the accused. As most of you know, Gas Town has "authentic" brick roads and when the conditions are right and the driver willing that said corner can be tons of fun to get the back of ones all wheel drive automobile to "step out". So the accused unless he was familiar with the local area he could of maybe taken that corner at too high a speed, thus causing the said accident. I do however condone the fleeing of the scene. I think proper signage should be posted on that corner, or park those rice mobiles on the other side of the street.

Yah, isn't fleeing the scene of an accident a criminal offense? Depending on the amount of damage right? over $1000 in damage.
