Talking "scare the pants off of a Subaru WRX"?

i was surfing the Sports Compact Car website & saw an article about the new Neon. it's got interesting data numbers, a possible contender for the WRX?

The SRT-4 may be performer, but you could just as well strap a nitromethane funny car engine on a 10 speed Schwinn and run 0-100 times in under one second (yes, I'm being facetious). I still like my WRX better.

Yhea.., not bad for 20,000$
if I would be looking for a new car and couldn't afford WRX - that probably would me car car of choice.
Fast and leaves you planty of cash for aftermarket toys.

on other hand - I don't know if I would trust the durability of it.
if it comes out in large production numbers will become kinda borring to me (I like uniqe cars like GC8 in the US - don't see much of those)
front weel drive

That's where I stand on it right now.

Definitely a well produced car, not sure about longevity but I have never owned a Dodge so I really wouldn't know. I was also reading about the SRT-4 somewhere else and they stated that
"Quaiffe" <----spelling was designing a limited slip system for it as well, that I would say would make the car a whole lot better, but I have to say it looks like a solid car IMO.

I owned a 99 Neon R/T ... P O S ... no doubt. Starter went right after filling my tank, at the gas station ... front door fell apart, so I climbed through the passenger side ... Tranny locked up in reverse twice and my brakes went out on the highway right before a traffic lock up and I went off road, so cars were moving over to block me thinking I was being an A-hole, well, I wasn't, I couldn't stop, so I went down a ditch and those A-holes came running, ARE YOU OK? I about slit their F-ing throughts stupid morons ... Dude NEONS are crap, no good ... they may go fast but they break fast as well. Crap. No good. Bye an 84 Trans Am before you get that crap car, you'll have better luck with the TA.

then don't look Kosta! for my money the AWD on the Subie makes it more than a match for this front wheel drive pumped-up freak. Longevity on Subaru's is legendary (unless you drive them like we do), plus you get a lot less respect on the road driving a Dodge than a Subaru

I get no respect in my Legacy anyways. That much torque sounds very nice, but the FWD just kills it for me. AWD or RWD for me!

A few things people miss from that article and generally about the Neon...

1 - the SCC article had an overpowered prototype. The production vehicle will be 215hp. Something in our favor.

2 - The Neon has MOPAR behind its back. MOPAR (historically) kicks ass. What does this mean? Gobs and gobs of aftermarket parts from the manufacturer. You'll stop laughing when you see 300hp to the wheels of a brand new production car within a year of its first sale... I'd bet on it.

3 - SCC is stupid. Its certainly jumped on a near verticle downhill since Josh Jackoff took over as editor. Its gone from rag to toilet paper. As the quality of the editing has gone down and the style has gone from professional to old school SuperStreet, I would not doubt that heir ability to be objective and honest (if they ever were anyway) has gone down as well.

The only thing that worries me is I'll never have a peaceful drive in San Francisco... especially in the Richmond. I doubt many young Asians will be buying Dodge, and become the laughing stock of the local tapioca drink hangout... but I can see all the Russian guys hopping on the MOPAR wagon. Every where I go some little puss in an ugly burnt orange Neon with look-a-like headlights will be tailgating and revving on me.

Oh the joy.
