Default Oil temp sensor

I don't know if this is the right forum. Sorry, if it is not. But I was able to get a used factory oil temperature gauge, but not the oil temp sensor. Does anyone know if I can just get an oil temp sensor from Autozone/Napa or should I just order the part from Subaru? This is for a 2001 RS. Thanks for any info.

Parts store won't have what you need.
The sensor is integrated into the oil drain plug, when you install the gauge the original drain plug is replaced with the new plug/sensor unit. Your best bet would be the dealer, assuming the sensor is available as a separate part.
There are sensors available for other aftermarket gauges but these may not be compatible with the factory temp gauge and the resulting readings could be inaccurate.

http://www.subaruparts.com/ is pretty reasonable from what I have read but I never ordered from them so I don't know about customer service and if you really need for the money to go somewhere I'll take it

You might get in touch with Subie Gal, she sells parts at a dealership and if it's available she can probably get you a decent price.

Thanks guys.

Poppa smurf: unless you look like a Victoria Secret model or know someone who does, then the money still goes to the car.

WRXerist: Thanks! I needed that part. Now I need the sender and all the wiring that would come with it. Do you sell those parts too? Thanks.

Or just get the part numbers from this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=268434 and get them from your dealership and save yourself some money. It's like 12 something canadian funds so under 10 bucks american dollars.

Also check out the mounting location they used, a little bit harder to install but you don't have to worry about working around the sensor when you do an oil change.

EvasionOfTruth: Thanks Evasion. That was a good read. Did you install your oil temp sensor already? If so does the gauge read accurately, even though it is not tap into the oil pan? Last question is still where I can get the sender and one that works with the LaMco oil temp gauge that Subaru uses in its gauge pack.
