Question No A/C?

Has anyone removed there A/C?
Meaning, has anyone just disconnected the belt. I purchased the GFB Pulley kit and was wondering about just not hooking up the A/C belt. Any gains or losses?

i ran around with mine this way for a while last summer (in FL -- UGH) since the bearing inside my a/c idler pulley decided to implode and make the worst metal on metal scraping noise known to man. so until i could get a new pulley, i just took the belt off.

even on a 1.8L engine, where that 2hp would have been nearly a 2% gain in power all the way around , i was hard pressed to notice a difference, except for the added sweating.

You would also have the benefits of weight reduction if you take out all of the ACs parts such as the condensor..

there's not much benefit to be had really

i ran with no ac all on the rally car and there was hardly a difference in weight (maybe 20lbs) and nothing to be had for HP gains...

hope this helps

Well, if you take the minute gains from removing the AC, coupled with the weight reduction, and you take of any other unneeded weight on the car, it all adds up in the end..

Theres about 200 lbs of stuff that can be fremoved from the car and another 200lbs can be removed by buying lightweight stuff.. A 2580 lb RS with 220 HP would be pretty sick!
