Default Lancer EVO on El Camino

I just saw a blue Lancer EVO going the other way on El Camino in Santa Clara. I thought they were supposed to come out on January? It had grease pencil markings on the rear window and I couldn't tell what it said across the back, but it said more than just Lancer. Probably "Evolution". It was definitely the EVO though. It had a front mount, and the right hood, lights and wing. No plates though. Just htought somebody might be interested.

Could it have been an Evolution Imports imported Evo VII? The USDM Evolution coming next year has the distinctive centerpiece that kind of makes it look like Pontiac Grand Am/Prix.

If its the latter that you saw - cool sighting!

Man I smell a LOT of street races coming up. Just think what'll happen when you pull up next to one at a stoplight. I don't know if I'll be able to help it.

I wonder how long it will take for the aftermarket to come to life for the EVOs.

BTW, they make a Lancer right now called the OZ Sport Edition or something that looks a lot like an EVO. Big wing, looks like it has a FMIC, etc. That might be what you saw.

I'm sure all the companies already have kits for the EVOs.

Just like when the WRX came out, there is already an aftermarket for the EVO. It has been available for years almost everywhere else in the world. There is reason it is called an EVO VII, its the seventh generation.

It was definitely not the OZ edition. The whole front end looks different. It was likely some sort of promotional car going from dealer to dealer or something. Just like WRX USA said, they're been made for years, so I'm sure Mitsubishi had not problem just sticking one on their latest shipment of cars for a promo-type thing. Usually car companies can get models out before their release to aftermarket companies. It could have also been on it's way to be delivered at some company's doorstep.

Actually it's my housemate Mike's car. He got it about a month ago from Evolution Imports. It's a real Evolution VII, French Blue. Just got it over the 700 mile mark and we can finally play with it just a little bit. It'll be a few more miles before he races any retards in Hondas on the street.

Dude the Recaro seats that it comes with are tight as hell! And I don't mean tight as in slang tight, I mean like tight on your ass. I'm only 165 ish lbs, and I can barely fit in there. Definitely made for skinny European guys (it was imported from Holland).

I'll check this post if you guys want more info about it. We're students at SCU (santa clara university) btw, and live just off campus. So he's always driving around the area here...

Hahaha. I'll mention the KK meet to him. It was pretty fun last time I hit up the MVKK... I'm sure he'll be up for a possible mountain drive, plus we all love donuts.

The Evo is Euro Spec, so it's pushing 300 hp. His was one of the first three or so that Evolution Imports imported, so he actually got it for 10k less than they're selling them for now, which is a pretty freaking good deal for an imported brand new Evo VII. He had a Chevy Cyclone before the Evo, but it got stolen. Insurance from that covered most of the cost of the Evo...
