Default putting in EGT probe

I am going to put in the EGT probe, and I have read that cylinder #3 is the best or put it into the collectors. I haven't decided where yet, because I am not sure how to count which cylinder is #3. Do I face the car and cylinder 3 is the one on the left side, furthest up? Thanks for any help.
