Default Track Driving Incar Camera Question

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or knows of how to setup an incar video camera. But, using a externally mounted camera (webcam type) with an internally mounted video recorder.

I am guessing, I may just go with one mounted on the rear deck, when I go to setup one, but was wondering what other options I have.

I'm interested in the same thing. My brother-in-law restored an old motoguzzi police cruiser and he used a "remote" camera. It was about the diameter of a quarter and about four inches long. He then ran RCA jacks to the camera securely mounted under the seat.

The videos are amazing, but they use a very wide angle lens. An option I'm considering is this set-up with the harness bar behind the seat with one of the commercially available camera mounts.

I don't know what it is, but since I got the car all I can think about is how to spend money on it.

Do a search in the "Motorsport" forum. Quite a few people have a camcorder setup when they drive on a track. Or ask the question again there, if you can't find satisfactory results from the search.

Conecam works great! I have their first generation camera (suffers a little from sun glare), but here's a 18.6MB video from the front of my RS at Summit Point Raceway in October.

I, too, use a Cone Cam - they've got a picture of my car and a few of my videos as demos on their website. Those videos were shot with my first generation camera, I now have a 2nd generation camera (which, as Steve the Copycat pointed out, performs better in direct sunlight). http://www.submariner.org/thepno95/V...he%20S2000.WMV is a clip shot with the newer camera (890kb, no audio).

The Cone Cam comes with a very complete set of cables - enough cord to locate the camera anywhere on the car. As far as I know the current generation of camera does not have audio, which isn't a bad thing IMHO. The first generation camera had a little pinhole mic in the camera, but it was completely useless at any speed above a standstill. I use a Sony digital mic and convert the output of it to RCA so I can input that into my videocamera when I'm recording with the Cone Cam.

I can go on and on, but suffice it to say the Cone Cam is a good option to look into.
