Default Midpipe w/resonator

What is the midpipe resonator for???

Is it just sound damping, like a muffler or does is serve any other purpose?

By removing this and replacing with a straight midpipe (no resonator) do you get any more torque or hp?

Thanks,

Lowball

The resonator is there solely to reduce noise output. Since it is a straight through design you're not going to free up much power by removing it, but you will reduce weight. I'm sure it does create turbulence in the exhaust flow which leads to a little bit of backpressure so removing it is probably worth 5 HP or so.

Well I was just wondering because I just orded the Stromung muffler and 3rd cat eliminator and was considering the mid pipe as well. Guess I'll try the 1st two and if needed then replace the mid pipe too.

Thanks,
