Default Questions about rallying the RX not WRX

Well we just got our hands on a EJ22T that is inside a totaled RX the motor is perfect it is just the rear end of the RX that is damage.

The question is are there enough rally parts (suspension, brakes, etc.) to suport running the RX as a rally car. We have another RX already that has a blown 1.8 turbo in it, that we are thinking of putting the EJ22T into.

What are your guys experiance with rallying the RX what are some good places to look for parts for this old of a car and would we be making a mistake if we went with the RX?

Erik S.

Your best bet is to get a GC8 chassis from like a 93L, strip it, and build it up from that using the EJ22T. Run it in open. That'd be a pretty mean little car.

I think sourcing parts for the RX will be VERY expensive in the long run, whereas the GC8 chassis subies have a worldwide rally market.

if you rally an RX.. make sure you have a full parts car... or your costs will add up rapidly.

also, suspension will be difficult to find.
GAB/KYB will be about the toughtest you'll find...
and that just isnt enough...

it is a decent rally car tho..
my b/f rallied an 85 RX turbo for 2 years
before building his Impreza 2.0T conversion...

it did well.. just when it did break, it was really expensive!!!

hope this helps.

I have heard of using legacy hubs so you can run legacy struts on the RX. Then we can run any legacy coil-overs from the early legacys.

Has any one done this?

We will be so full into open class it doesn't matter what we do.

Yeah i dont think they will let us run P-gt with the EJ22T that came out like 5 years after the car was made.

We have quite a few people in open class out here and that is the plan.

If we were going to look for a Impreza L where would be a good place to look?

Look for a wholesale lot. You should be able to pick one up (w/ working motor) for about 2k.
