Default 1.8l upgrade to 2.5l ???

Does the ECU and/or engine wiring harness have to be replaced as well? Has anyone done this?

The EJ18 is OBD I, so you would need to swap the ECU and Wiring harnass for the EJ25 to run properly. At least thats what I would do... Some folks enjoy jury-rigging their wiring, but a harnass + ECU is not THAT expensive to not do it.

Default MY00 1.8LS

I have a 1.8LS with MAP, is this also OBD I? Surely it's ODB II.
Would a SOHC 2.5 MAP motor and ECU plugn'play?

subaru went to OBDII starting in 96, so you should be OK in that regard, but i would bet it's safe to say that the ECU and wiring are going to be different. you'd probably have an easier time than someone with an older GC8 though.

typically OBD2 started in 1996

Kostamojen- when you said about swapping the wireing harness with the RS's do you know if you can just swap theengine harness it self or do you have to swap everything on the car? for example on the honda/acura motors you bacically unplug 6 main plugs and you can pull the motor and tranny out together, i didnt know if subaru was the same way(im to lazy to go out and open my hood ). and if its not the same way how much of the wireing harness do you have to change?

It's ODB II as the ODB II scanner that I borrowed worked fine. I guess I'm just gonna have to take the plung and give it a try. Now I just need to find a motor for a decent price.
