JC Whitney has some cheap models. AutoZone can scan/clear them for you, and sell you a scanner too I think. Then there's Snap-On and Mac, Matco, etc. $$$$$

If you have a laptop, check out http://www.obd-2.com/ . I have this tool and use it to clear my CEL for the Cobb Club Spec kit until I get the permanent fix. It has worked well for me.

AutoZone has a really cool one now...its $149...warrantied at any autozone in the country, and has built in code database, so you dont even have to look it up anymore. It does some other stuff too. (including clearing the codes)

I have one, and its perfect...

The one I've got for my Palm IIIxe is made by Pocketlogger. Cost was ~170.00 IIRC. You'd also need a serial cable for about another 10.00 (don't try to get by with the cradle). It checks and clears codes and can log data as well.

edit:
...and you can download OBD-II codes for just about any manufacturer from auterra (www.auterraweb.com). It was useful when I had to troubleshoot a Nissan Pathfinder with a CEL (2 failed cam timing sensors).

I am looking for one as well. Do you know the name of the new one that autozone has?

Its from Actron...its the only one they have. Its "Safety Orange" in color and has an LCD display on it.

Just walk in and ask for the OBDII scanner. ;-)

Tell them you work with an Ambulance or fire/police and you'll get 10% off. (Shhhhh)

sure... that works on any part in the store.. Just use common sense with it...and try to grab a dummy at the register who isnt going to make a fuss or try and ask for ID. The EMT worker is the best one, because there isnt really and ID you can provide to them, like a police badge or something... when I worked EMS, I wore a corporate type badge on the exterior of my uniform...didnt carry anything around.

hope it helps everybody...that $300 alternator would sure look nice with 10% chopped off.
