Default To all of you out there that are having trouble getting into reverse.

As the transmission gets warmer, it gets harder and harder to shift into the reverse and the rest of the gears keep getting notchier. If you are having trouble getting into reverse, try going in to 5th first and then try shifting into reverse. If you still cant get in, go to 4th, 5th, and then shift into reverse. This way, the synchros should align and it should work.

It's the other way around for me: stiff when cold; OK when warm.

Edit: unless you wrote the opposite of what you meant, you may have a tranny problem.

Thank god! I was having trouble getting the car into reverse also when the car was cold. I would Try to put it in and if it would not go in smooth I'd blip the gas and when the RPM's dropped to idling speed it would usually go in. Now that I know that there are no syncros in reverse that explains it all.

i didnt mean the opposite of what i wrote, when the transmission is cold, its really easy for me to get into reverse but the rest of the gears are a little stiff. When I drive a lot in one day and when the transmission gets really hot, reverse is very hard to engage and the rest of the gears aren't as slick. Even tho reverse isn't synchronized, going into fifth before engaging reverse helps a lot. I really don't think i have a transmission problem, what do you guys say?

Well putting redline oil in my car really made things worse for me on really hot days like in the 85's+ degrees.

I'm now going to try Torco synthetic or regular, depending on my spending mood and what kind of deal my local speed shop cuts me.
