Thumbs up Suggestions for Competition Helmets....

Just wanted some suggestions for a good helmet. I have about 650.00 budgeted for a good helmet that will be used at road racing events.

I am currently considering the Simpson Shark, but it seems to be more for cart racing and drag. I also guessing that one doesn't have to pay half of what I budgeted for a decent helmet.

What helmet(s) do you use? What is the cost? Would you recommend it?

Thanks for looking,
Nate

I use a Bieffe Predator and I love it. The viewport is very large and offers very good visibility. The fit & finish of the helmet is very nice, and it is also very comfortable even when I've been wearing it for a long time.

I have a Simpson and am not impressed.

I'd recommend an Arai !!! Great quality and super comfy.

Try them on before you buy.

You should consider what kind of driving, in what vehicles you'll be doing...

Probably the biggest difference in what you'll want/need is whether or not you plan on any open-cockpit driving (including karts). If not, then pretty much anything with a current Snell approval should be OK, as long as it fits. But if you might use it in something other than a sedan, you'll need a full face, with a good visor/shield system and as small an eye opening as you're comfortable with. (The trade-off for opening size being between safety from better vision vs. safety from less exposure.)

If you're going exclusively for sedan use, just look back a few days in this forum for a thread on a number of good choices/opinions on large opening/full face helmets (OMP, Bieffe. and the Bell SR-Pro)

This is a bad place for on-line buying.
Each manf. has a different idea on what a head is shaped like and there is no other way than testing each one yourself.
Go local if possible and try them out.

Default heres mine

i got an OMP/AGV Formula Integrale. and i love it. It's way more comfortable than my old Arai motorcycle helmet.

IMHO it's one of the best looking helmets on the market.

also the lightest at 2 KG with a full carbon composite shell.
