Question 2.5inch Pipe VS 3inch Pipe

Yes, we have talked abouth this debate before. Half say 3" the other half say 2.5". The article I read about, from Mike Shields at SPD seems to make the most sense. Can anybody give there .02 if at all possiable? I have a Stromung Axle Back (just purchased it), didn't realize how good it was. A few Bay Area Performance shops said "No you need a 3inch Pipe" Ok enough of that. Let the forum bidding begain.

I am also interested in this debate.

I placed a straight 2.5 pipe on my wagon, and while I cannot say that it dramatically increased the power, the car seems to rev easier

IMO- it really depends on what you want to do with your car. If you want to build a car for drag racing then you will probably be doing a lot of upgrades related to HP - bigger turbo, engine work etc...but if you plan to take your car to an AutoX event then you will need a car with a lot of low end torque (1st and 2nd gears) and a good supension setup. From what I understand the 3" systems are great for HP gains especially if you plan on going above 320hp. The 2.5" systems are good if you plan on staying under 300-320hp with the OE turbo and want to increase torque...

ScoobySport all the way - awesome sound, smooth torque and power delivery...

Thumbs up 3"

I would go 3" all the way down.

Seems from what I've read, the way to go is 2.5. I just bought the Stromung SS Dual Tip Axle Back. I love it! Down the road, I will do a Full Turbo Back in 2.5.

Thanks Guys

Once again...

I would really think about my long term goals...

2.5" and a maximum of 320HP if you plan on staying with the OEM engine components and OEM turbo...

3" if you plan on going above 320HP just make sure you also upgrade your engine components and the OE turbo if you want long term reliability...

IMO - 3" is an overkill for the OE turbo...

ScoobySport all the way....
