Default WRX's in Car & Driver and Road & Track...

Car & Driver has the M2 modified WRX in their latest issue... as well as the 10 best award, etc.

Road & Track has a track comparison between the stock WRX, STi suspension packaged WRX, and a Tommi Kaira WRX.

Thats how mainstream the WRX has gotten... next thing you know Motor Trend will name it car of the year...

I looked at that M2 WRX... 12K for not that much. COBB STG1 + Stoptechs + SPT kit = same effect for much cheaper

I hate that I'm always the last one to get them. I received the R&T Saturday; still no C&D. The WRX article was nice. They gushed over the Tommy Kaira's engine, but hated the suspension. They said it was too hard, and caused the car to bunny hop over any bumps. The STi equipped WRX (BBS wheels, STi muffler and suspension) beat the regular WRX by about 2 seconds per lap. The TK beat that by about 3 more seconds per lap, but they said it probably would have been faster if they hadn't had to compensate for the suspension around the curves.

The Road and Track article mentioned that the Tommy Kaira Parts were available through select dealers. Is this a typo? Do they mean only Dealers in Japan? Also, the Tommy Kaira car is based on an STI, so I am assuming that they meant Japanese dealers only. SOJ's web-site does list the Tommy Kaira parts as options. I checked Motorex's website, but saw nothing but Skylines.......no WRX parts.

As for Car and Driver, I think they need to get a tuned WRX out for the next "Super Tuner Challenge" that they hold each year. Most of the cars in that challenge have more money in mods than a new WRX costs, and their cars break during testing and in most cases, are either barely better than stock or in some cases worse than stock ([clearthroat]RennTech[/clearthroat]).

The WRX would get toasted by some of the cars in that last comparo.

Nix that, it would get toasted by MOST of the cars in that last comparo. I have to pull out the issue, but I know it would lose by a mile to the corvette that ended up winning.

Your orange car might be able to blind the oncoming Vettes in a road race though !

Bob,

You are a tough crowd. My point is that the WRX will hang with most of the cars in that test, be drivable as a daily driver, and be reliable enough to finish the test without breaking. This isn't bad considering that if you took a WRX with a stroker motor, strap another $25,000 in mods on it and tune it properly, you would have a car that will be a 2.2 liter 4-cylinder, that costs $60,000 out the door, and will keep up with the world's finest. I believe the engine mods on most of those cars cost at least $60,000. Being a "Tuner" Challenge, and seeing that the import market is so huge, I think it would be nice to see an "affordably" priced tuner car (affordable compared to others in the test). BTW, an S4 would have been nice too.

As for blinding them with my car.........that just isn't funny For the money you have spent in exterior mods on your car, I think your car could be as fast as a Ruf Turbo if that money was invested in the motor .

True, but that is what January and a new loan check from the government will bring...

The "STI equipped" car had the suspension from the SPT catalog. I don't think that suspension is adjustable. The Tommy Kaira STI had the way-too-stiff Tommy Kaira Set-up (At least that is what the article said as far as that set-up).

Bob,
Where do I apply for one of those loans? I can really use some more mods (STI up-pipe, bosal dp, Subaru 4-pots, Eibachs, etc).

It's easy, really. Just give up four years of your life making no money and paying $31000 in tuition a year! You'll make enough money on top of that to get the modded WRX of your dreams!

I was going to go for the bosal dp, but I think I'm probably going to go for TXS stage 2 or 4. If I do TXS stage 2, I will get the STi suspension setup.
