(long story)
I was driving down 101 south (sj, cap. expwy) about 4 pm. This truck was messing with me and wouldn't let me over to the commute lane, so I down shift and blow past him. But I quickly come upon an idiot driver going 60 MPH in the commute lane. So, I puch it again and go arround HER!! Then the next person is doing 60 MPH in the commute lane. I back off and notice that there is a CHP coming on to the freeway (no big deal). All of the sudden the lady in front of me PUNCHES it and flys by the CHP that is in the slow lane. I was like.....What the?....... The CHP sees her and goes all the way to the commute lane and get's behind her. She doesn't even see him and doesn't even slow down. Then she sees him and hits her brakes. I'm thinking "she's busted". But then the CHP gets next to her and then slowly goes back to the slow lanes and gets off the freeway. So, now I was like WHAT?!?!? and I pull up next to her and she doen't even have a passenger with her. The CHP didn't even bother her for ANYTHING!!!!If that was me or some of you....I am sure we would have been done!!!! NO MERCY!!! You guys see stupid crap like this? Lately there has been a ton of cops...all over. Whats up with that?

The strangest thing I've seen happen (with a cop) was on the beginning of 85. It was 2pm going north, before any big traffic had started. Cars usually go +75 in the fast lane 75 to 70 in the middle lane and at least go 65 in the slow lane.
There was about a group of 8 cars in the middle and slow lane going about the same speed (70-65) when a cop got on to the freeway. He quickly got into the fast lane going at least 80 mph and swerved right in between the group of 8 cars. Quickly the group of cars slows down to 65 to 60(not knowing why the cop quickly changed lanes). One car in the slow lane try’s to speed back up to 65 and continue back on again. The cop turns his lights on(with no one directly ahead of him(a couple of cars are in the slow lane ahead though), and quickly swerves to the slow lane and back to middle lane to stop the car going faster than 60 in the slow lane. Another group ahead of us must see the lights of the cop and start to slow down. The cop isn’t doing much but going about 60 in the middle lane with his lights on when we start to reach the group ahead of us(as they are slowing down). Suddenly a car comes up in the fast lane going about 80 and cop swerves right into the fast lane causing the car to slam on his brakes and almost lose control to avoid hitting the cop car by going off the road a little bit. Next thing the cop does is start slowing down even more. The group ahead of us starts to speed right back up again to 65(as to get away from the crazy cop). The car in the slow lane try’s to join the second group by speeding back up to 65 and once again the cop swerves into his lane and back into the middle again. We are now doing 45 mph and I’m now starting to get pissed. At first I thought there might be something up ahead in the middle of the road, but after a few minutes of this and not stopping the second group (the group ahead of us) at all I didn’t know at all what was happening. Luckily my exit was the next one ahead. Right at the last moment, the cop serves and gets right ahead of me for the exit. He goes right through the red light (he does still have his lights on) and right back again on the freeway again (going the same direction). So yes, I do see stupid things like that go on. |

That's called a traffic break, he probably had a buddy up ahead a ways pulling a couch out of the middle of the road or something.

Maybe, but why would you start off by going in the middle of a group of cars(and swerving really fast into them) and not start off by going in front of the group?
Plus, wouldn’t the safest thing to do to not have cars pass you to contentiously move from the fast lane to the slow lane and not swerve right in front of a car when its trying to pass? Also, when the second group came up, why not get ahead of them and slow them down as well, especially when you didn’t slow our group down enough before he got off the freeway from the second group ahead. Last, why get off the freeway to go back on again (especially when it wasn’t even a CHP car)? |

My only comment to this whole thing is this.... I've grown up around cops, My father is a CHP sergeant, There are proceedures and protocals that they must follow as well as many things they do that have reprecutions your not aware of for a reason.
I have heard and seen a lot of it and have still only scratched the surface, so please unless you are an officer refrain from such ignorante statements as "I hate cops" they do more for you than you realize. I dare you to live in a world without them. |

The day my attitude changed was when I broke down on southbound hwy 1 just south of pacifica, climbing the grade, at sundown. My buddy and I started directing traffic to try and keep things moving, I almost got ran over half a dozen times by a$$holes who didn't care that we were broken down and trying to HELP the situation. I was never so happy to see the CHP arrive than that evening. My 2 cents |

first case the officer did make a point and gave the driver (lady) a break. She slowed down and behaved. He could have ticketed her but she got lucky he was busy ... does not matter.
Second case traffic brake. I have seen it done only in Calofornia. Much more dangerous for the officer. Other states would have stopped traffic. Cheers Nick |

I was just saying that was crazy. I know if I sped up past a cop he would have pulled me over....and I would have got busted for speeding and driving in the commute lane by myself.
But then again, if I went speeding past a cop, it would be a while before he caught up to me!!!! So, he would be really mad!! -freddie |
