The cat that came with my MRT exhaust broke in less than six months. To be exact, its the honeycomb catalyst broke into pieces inside the cat converter. You'll hear the broken pieces rattle inside the cat if your cat is broken like mine. The broken pieces may eventually get blown into the downstream exhaust pipe and block the exhaust, then you'll feel power loss. In my case, I ordered a aftermarket universal cat and got it welded on by a shop around here.

hope this help.

how is MRT about replacing these? of course if you're having a problem with it, i'm sure you don't want them replacing it. will it make strange sounds?

I have had the MRT system on my car since early July '02. I got the rattling a little after installation. It gradually goes away as the car warms up and stops rattling after 15 min. of driving. I checked the bolts, and they're pretty tight. Do you think that the cat was destroyed during shipment? First startup? Maybe the cat was welded the wrong way from MRT?

I don't have a sensative butt dyno, so I won't notice a slight power loss or if some chick slapped my butt. Is there anything we can do to check the cat besides using a hammer?

One way to find out is to look inside the cat. I have a picture of my broken cat in this thread:

no, i had some weird noises down there the other day, but it wa just the front o2 sensor. somehow it came out.

i just wanted to do some research on it, since it'll probably end up happening. so what did you guys do? replace it? with what? what's MRT like about it? thanks.
