Default OT New EVO 8's

I think they are pritty cool and we finnally have AWD compition not saying Audi doesnt have any good AWD cars. Its rumored its going to have 271 HP with 260 lbs/torque w/ front and rear viscous LSD. Do u think its possible for WRX's to have same HP level with uppipe and turbo back exhaust with 15 psi of boost??? im kinda skeptical, friend has down payment for one already and is supposed to be getting by the end of next month. And all he can talk about is EVO this EVO that when i get my evo i will smoke u blah blah blah. I was going to get the EVO but then i needed a car now and had to get the WRX and i love it.

Wut are ur guys opinions???

Personally putting a downpayment on a car that they havnt even officially released all of the tech stats for is a scary proposition. What if it comes out making 150hp?

On the other hand, I think the Evo8 is going to be a really good competitor to the modded WRX's out there. Its definatly a good platform. Something to consider though, is my WRX was $23k. So $23k + 1k (turbo) + $1k (uppipe + unichip) + $1k (tires and wheels) + $500 (brakes) + $1k (turboback exhaust) = $27500 and you have a car that probably makes near 300 crank HP if not more.. (btw i dont have all those mods, i WANT them.. hehe)

Who knows which one would be faster, but I think it would be a damn good race...

My opinion is that the EVO VIII is butt ugly. Disgusting, *** did mitsubishi do to make such a great car so fugly.

EVO V was by far the best IMO that is. And just last thursday i saw a real EVO VII in person and it was damn sweet. EVO VII was the last of the good looking ones. Its gonna go all downhill from here.

I don't know all that much on the specs of the EVO VIII, but i'm pretty sure it'll be good performance wise though.

But you can get an EVO VII that is street legal in CA for less than $40,000. I know i dont have that kind of money, but if i did, i would choose the EVO VII over the VIII.

I read in Motor Trend, Mitsubishi plans to make a car in between the Evolution and OZ Lancer to compete with the regular WRX.

That OZ evo will be paired up against the svt focus and se-r nissan. i dont think its meant to compete against the wrx seeing as how it will only have 160-170hp.

The big issue I see w/ the Evo isn't its style, its that it is a Mitsubishi. From what I've seen on various customer satisfaction reports and reviews in magazines and online, Mitsubishi's quality and reliability has consistantly gotten poor ratings.

Even if the Mits' power turns out to be better than the Sube's, I'd still stick w/ Subaru for the reliability.

daym skippy!!! personally i love the looks of the EVO 6. I know a lot of people who own MITSU's and they have problems every day. Mitsu is like the japanese version of Ford and i used to own a 2nd gen eclipse GSX it was a nice car but then the engine got crank walk at 60k miles and i just lost all faith in Mitsu

I believe Sport Compact Car did an article on this a while back. I forgot what issue it was but it had an STI WRX on the cover. But they had a section where they tested their own project WRX with a vishnu stage 0 and some suspension mods and did some comparison tests with a euro spec EVOVII. The EVOVII slightly edged out the WRX in all the tests. Since the U.S. version EVO will be a slightly watered down version, I'm thinking that a nicely tuned WRX would match quite evenly.

...oh and since everyone is mentioning their favorite EVO's, I vote for a white EVO IV. That's always been my favorite!

Evos....great car.

Problem is, not many Mitsu's dealership around.

What if you got bad service from your local dealership and you wanted to bring your car somewhere else?

Subaru dealerships are everywhere. If you get bad service from one dealership, you have an option.

Nahh you got it a bit wrong... there is a Lancer OZ edition with 130 something hp for the US. Next generation it would have like 150-160 hp. this I guess will play with the 2.5 RS.

Now the Evolution is a Lancer (but a different beast) and we should be getting the Evolution VIII. outside the Us it is rated at 280hp. It was not meant to compete with the WRX. It was meant to compete with the STi.

Cheers

Nick

Well, there are alot of people (including myself) that would destroy an EVO with their wrx. BUT one thing you have to remember (including myself again) there is always someone faster. I just havn't met that person yet j/k......

Anyway, all he has to do is get a BC and all the other bolt on pieces that are available for the EVO and I am sure he will be making me spend more money on a Vishnu stage 3. Know what I mean though?

ya know, they can mod their car too, not like every EVO is gonna be stock =)

...i hear the OZ Lancers are coming with a factory turbo...and that's wat's gonna be set to compete with the cars in the $20-25 range...

while the EVO is stuck in the upper 30s................

i dunno, but it's a nice car, iffy cosmetics lately but it ain't like the new WRX is the most beautiful thing in the world... =/

Haven't met that person yet eh? What about my friends jetta you had fun with that one time on de anza and bollinger? Actually i dont think he beat you, and it was a rolling start. But it would probably be a nice little race to see. He's running in the 13's. I'm not sure where you're at. I know he wants revenge.

I just want to know when I can go in for a test drive! You never know, I might one day go to a dealership in my WRX and come out with a LanEvo, and never be seen on this forum ever again!

Thumbs down

Ugly. It's just too damn ugly. Not that the WRX is much more attractive, but it'll be a great battle for supremacy.

Well, I had them going for $1,500.00 w/pirelli rosso's...and alot of people were interested, but by the time someone actually comes through, probably $1,350. - $1,400.00, depending on how much tread is left. The tires are still good righ now...and will be for a while. they are Volks 17x8 gunmetal w/polished lip.

I got the 22b wing from Vivid about 1 yr. ago.....had it before I bought the car rims too!
