Default Cost of a typical "track meet?"

I was wondering how much it usually costs for someone to drive their car over a typical (you didn't crash) race day? Stuff like cost of gas, entrance fees, etc would be nice too. Thanks.

You talking a real race? Or just a open-track day with about 1.5 to 2 hours of track time?

For a simple track day with a good club, including instructors:

Entrance fees: $125-175/day, depending on club, run group size, track, day of week, and season.
Gas: 2 hours ~= 150miles, 6MPH, therefore 25 gallons or $45. But usually you don't get 150 miles on the track.
Brake pads: Depending on what type and how hard you drive, but expect to spend about $25 on front pads, <$10 on rear for one day.

Those are the basic costs. Add hotel, food, gas to go to the track, souvenir photos, etc... And a 2-day event can cost up to $1,000 if it's far from home.

your average 2 day event, 3-4 hours of class, 1.5-2 hours of track time, roughly $300. FATT events are less (friday at the track). About half the track time, and price. you can cut out most of those other costs by not buying everything you see, i sure as hell dont spend an additional $700. Just gas and maybe a hotel.

Well, I've done it both ways.

I've been to my "local" track at New Hampshire International with the BMW club. They run there all the time, and it was ~$250 for two days. Drove up there in the morning, shared one night of hotel with another Subie driver, and drove back after the 2nd day. Very little side cost.

And I went to Mid-Ohio with TracQuest/Rennlist in August. It's 800 miles each way, and I went there by myself, so it was 3 nights of hotels, plus gas. That event cost ~$450 for two days, but track time was incredible. For the second day, I was on the track for over 3 hours, until I ran out of brake pads. And I hanged out with those rich Porsche owners for fancy dinner, etc... That trip cost me about $1K, but I had the most fun and most track time.

LOL, well, it seems the second one was definitely on the extreme side, that would have been fun.

Here in SoCal I run with the Alfa club. They have 2-day events - drivers schools and time trial/race. I budget about $500 per event for everything, food, gas, oil changes, room, entrance fees etc. If I run R compounds I add another $175 to that total. Sometimes I go to 1 day events run by Porsche club or Road One and budget about $175 and $525 respectively. Alfa club runs at weekends and the others midweek, but the midweek runs give me a huge amount of track time 3 1/2 - 4 hours in one day, versus the same over two days with Alfa club.

No, the extreme side would be paying $2000 to run at 7 tracks in 7 days ... on the other side of the country. Add in ~8000mi worth of gas, brake pads, rotors, a dedicated set of tires, 2 weeks worth of meals, 2 weeks worth of hotels, etc etc. That's extreme! (Right, Ray? )

Pat, don't forget to add the cost of your plane ticket, and the thousands you lost on the black jack tables. Oh, I forgot we didn't gamble... Haha.

How about shipping a car from HI back to the mainland for track days? That'd be extreme too!

I read a review of OTC in, I think, Autoweek, and he mentioned the two guys who drove across the country in their Legacy for the event

They gave us the inaugural long-distance award. And if they were serious about what they told us, that award will be known in subsequent OTC as the "Olsen/Kwan Long Distance Award".
