The price difference will be $50 x 4 = $200 more for the 18's...

Factor in the much more expensive 18" tire, and you have about a $3000 investment for the 18's, and about $400-600 less for the 17's with tires.

I am considering getting these rims, but I don't know if I can justify $3000 on wheels. I already own a set that is close in price (18" Limix Lineas).

oh, and I hope you didn't think that $550 was the price of four rims on www.japanparts.com???

To answer your other questions, offset has been covered many times on NASIOC, but here's a quick and dirty. Offset refers to the distance that the center of the wheel is from the centerline of the width of the rim. A more positive offset will cause the wheels to be more "tucked in" to the body, whereas a less positive offset with cause the wheels to come out of the body, possibly bulging from the fenders outwards.

Here's a diagram. It sucks, but it gets the point across. The wheels are to be viewed as the ======= is the tread, looking at the wheel longitudinally. The | are the wheel face, and the .... are the axles.

Positive offset:
<----center of car

=========
............|
............|
............|
............|
............|
=========

Negative offset:

=========
......|
......|
......|
......|
......|
=========

Zero offset:
=========
........|
........|
........|
........|
........|
=========

7.5JJ is the width of the tire in inches. For a 7.5 inch wheel, you want an offset of around +52 or +53.

I am considering getting those wheels in the future. I suggest getting th 53+ offset. If you ever want to upgrad to larger brakes, you shouldn't have any fitment problems.
