Black as Midnight!!!

Default ABS + Rain = stable car

So today I was in a really good mood so I decided to go try and slide my car around in this VERY empty (and WET) parking lot (Cal-expo/The Point for those in the Sac area). Well, I dont take out the ABS fuse, and well for the life of me I cant get the car to slide!!. I tried the scandanavian flick probly 6 times, and only ONCE was I able to whip it into a slide, and that was doing 50+ in this parking lot. Maybe next time ill try and remove the ABS fuse...but I also am more confident with the car because now I know I dont have AS MUCH snap oversteer to worry about if there is an emergency. The car just seemes to stick very well in this wet parking lot...and if my car DID start to slide i jsut lightly stepped on the gas and it straightened out.

AND to top it all off, I decide to leave the parking lot after about 3-5 mins of messing around, and when I go to the next intersection there are TWO Sac County Sheriff sitting in the Chevron parking lot (in their car)...which from there you can EASILY see into and hear my car in the parking lot. I got DAMN lucky (even tho I have a reasonable explination). I just drove away laughing, but also thanking god they didnt come over or wernt paying attention.

Just decided to share my story...I SOO wish we had an Auto-X in the rain up here...oh well, maybe next spring.

Whats up Dan...

I'm able to get my rex pretty sideways easily when it's rainy...just make sure to floor it, crank the wheel sideways, come off the throttle for a second, and then floor it!

I take no responsibility for anything that happens if you munch something. I do have a 22mm rear sway bar and HD endlinks...but I can do it in my wife's wagon too pretty easily. Throttle is the key.

I'm sure that if you really stomped on the brakes to load up the front and then turned aggressively, it would rotate. Either way...it sure is fun to power out of those turns in the rain (in safe places of course...don't try around a turn on Stanford campus )

The thing is that I have the STI-RA suspension, 20mm sway bar, and HD endlinks... Dunno what it is, but at 50MPH, if i let off the throttle, lightly tap the brakes and snap the car, it still slid only once.

and I BARELY have enough power to keep the wheels spinning in 2nd gear...so powering through it is kinda hard for us with only 165+ HP.

I think 50 is just a LITTLE too slow for my suspension, if I was going 60-70 then I bet it woudl slide ALOT easier if i did the exact same move (but thats hard cuz i would have to get it back into 2nd before powering out of it).

hmm well i floored the car through first gear made a turn like i was turning left from one street to another and in the middle of the turn started to shift. i guess while shifting i am in neutral cuz the car just started to slide, scared the carp outta me, so then i pop it into second give it gas and i got conrtol, ahh the beauty of all wheel drive

Shoot.. the cheapest way to do that is to put 45psi in the back tires (assuming RE92s). That'll loosen up the rear for ya.

I think it could be the pavement too...cuz at teh auto-x's I can easily slide my car through the corners.

It could also be that its always better to have a course instead of an open lot...I drive alot more controled (on the edge) while on an auto-x track versus just an open parking lot.
