Default Tell me what you think of this set-up

After talking to a friend who is in the audio business, I've come up with all this stuff for the STi. Any experiences good or bad and comments are appreciated.

Alpine 7897 HU
CDT Hd-62's for the front
CDT Cdt-4 drivers for the rear
Phoenix Gold Ti 10D- 2 10" subs
Phoenix Gold Ti Tantrum 600.4 for the speakers and 1200.1 for the subs

Thanks for any input,
George

I think CDT makes some of the best drivers out there, based on the reviews I've read, however, with the new CDT Eurosport drivers out, why not go with those?

Also I've read good things about Phoenix Gold's new Tantrum line of amps, nice choice there. I went with JL Audio amps myself and am very happy.

Also, Phoenix Gold is not necessarily KNOWN for their subs. They aren't necessarily bad drivers per se, but I think there are some better choices. What is your goal, SQ or SPL? Let me know and I'd be glad to make some recommendations.

I agree, not that pheonix subs are bad. But i think yuo could buy better. I like eclipse, concept(probably never heard of them, they rock!!! www.conceptconcept.com), orion, JL, kicker and there ar a few other good ones. If SG is your goal check out eclipse aluminums, they cound nice and so do the titaniums.

I just looking for something that will sound really good, doesn't have to be able to win competitions. I don't really know that much about audio, thats why I went to this guy for help, the reason I'm getting the PG subs is because I was told that I needed a specific type of sub for the amps that I'm planning on using.

Help is appreciated
George

I don't know what they mean by using specific subs. If they are talking about the independence of the subs then any thing that matches the PG sub will be ok,whether they be dual 40hm coils or whatever. If you need any advice PM me ands i'll be happy to help you out.

definately like the CDT components, i used to have a set of them in my old car but i'm trying some Focal polykevlars in my new car.

i would probably get something other than their tantrum line. i'm sure it's good, but i'd rather get an older ZX ti amp if you want to stick with PG. I personally use DEI Directed amps because i'm on a tight budget and they are very good bang for their price.

My two all-time favorite subs are ADS 310rs.2 and Eclipse aluminum 88120, very good SQ, both don't require too much power to drive.

I've heard a bunch of other stuff, but the only way to figure out what you want is to listen to each one, like there isn't one best speaker out there for everyone.

edit: just reread your post. if you're not going for competition and just want something that sounds good and won't cost a fortune.. i would say the CDTs are overkill, there are a lot of good speakers out there that don't even cost half of a CDT HD set. I just bought a set of DEI Directed 3065 components for my brother's accord for $150/pair brand new and i'd say they're good enough for the majority of the people looking to upgrade their system.

i wouldn't necessarily put too much trust in this guy that's been helping you at the shop if he pull out a line that you need certain subs for the amp. sounds like he's trying to push a certain sale or meet a quota. that 1200.1 amp, you really dont' need 1000 watts to have good sounding subs. my one friend has a 500w amp hooked up to two 12" Kenwood dB+ subs and they sound very good. the key is in the design of the enclosure.

all of the equipment that he suggested will also lead to your alternator dying in the near future, then he'll try to sell you a battery which in my eyes is a band-aid type fix. you'll be running into a lot of problems without doing some good research first. it's a good thing you didn't buy everything already, definately check out all of your options first.

I agree. If you're not looking for huge bass you don't need1200W. Anything like 400- 800 watts would be plenty (depending on the subs) personaly my suggested set up would be 2 eclipse aluminum subs (mentioned above) and 1 concept ccd800A (class D) amp running the subs. This would sound awsome. Plus the concept amp is relativly cheap and they make awsome power. I ran my two eclipse titaniums with one for a while while my ccd2400 was on order and it sounded good. I encourage you to check out concept on their website. They are quality audio components (prices are very infalted on their website!!!) and you will have no complaints about them. If you need more advise on concept do a search on sounddomain.com lots of guys use them.
