Default Do you guys think i can be competive in STS class with my 2.2L Motor.

I'm getting kinda tired of not being able to lower my OBS.

I was wondering if i could be competitive in STS class with the EJ22?

Could i put the 2.5 motor in my car and still run in STS or STX class?

you can run race tires in STX right?

i have been reading the rule page and i'm getting kinda confused.

No, in STS and STX. You must run what they call street tires. Tires wiht a treadware of 140 and above. What your thinking of as race tires have a treadware of below 100.

That is a good question. There was talk about this at Nationals with the SP update backdate rule in STS and STX . WIth the SP rules, the Honda guys can take a HX CRX and put a SI CRX motorand tranny and put it in there HX. The HX is lighter but is in FSP but when they do the SI motor and tranny swap. It puts the car in CSP. This also can work with the Civic hatchbacks between 84'-91'. So you could take a FWD Brighton or L Impreza which is in FSP. Take the engine and drivetrain from a 2.5RS and put it in a FWD Brighton or L Impreza and run it in DSP. I was talking to Phill Osborne about this and say it could be done with the Impreza and run in STS or STX. Don't take this as the the final word. Mainly reading the rules and using them to your advantage.
I wonder if I could do this with my RS and do a WRX engine and tranny swap and still run in STX?

I don't think that there is an update/backdate in the ST classes (to that extreme), there is in SM though.

I believe you can do the engine swaps if the cars are located on the same line for SP in the same class. The WRX and RS are not even in the same SP class, so no go.

However, UD/BD is or will be totally legal in ST for 2003.

The restrictions will be lifted? Or did you mean to say "illegal"?

Locally, if driven very well, yes. It won't win in Topeka (but the 2.5RS will have a hard time against the lighter cars from now on, too).

I don't think so. From what I have heard, you can update/backdate, but only with cars that are listed on the same line in the SP listings (RS is in DSP, 2.2 is in FSP). Even then, IMO the cost and trouble involved to get a 2.5 OBS wouldn't be worth it up here (vs. a 2.2 OBS with nice coilovers, or a used 2.5RS).

There has been a lot of talk about putting the 89 civic EX (same as SI) motor and tranny in a 89 civic HF (I think) body, but that is only allowed because they are on the same SP line. I haven't heard of anybody doing that (yet) in STS.

Nope. Street tires (i.e. Azenis), defined as > 140 treadwear, 245 width in STX, 225 in STS.

The OBS has a better weight distribution than the RS. Set up the suspension (make sure you dont forget the strut braces f/r and the swaybars!), brakes, basic bolt ons (the 2.2 responds very well to intake/exhaust) and you'll be scaring the pants off the 2.5 guys. As for tires, Azenis are the only way to go. When I won divisionals in 2000 I was on Kuhmo 712s, now the guys running the 712s are consistently several seconds back on 60+ sec courses. I'm debating on investing in a second set of wheels and V700s or just get a set of Azenis. I'll be in SM (was in EP but decided to go turbo) so I won't be terribly competative either way.
