We could see 8 feet of snow dumped over the weekend!

That is just plain crazy powder time.

I'm watching it all weekend and going for fresh tracks as soon as the window opens.

The winds are supposed to be 50-70mph so I'm not sure this is a jam up to kirkwood during the storm weekend , but I'm going to watch it closeley nonetheless.

Monday/Tuesday looks like the window as of today.

WOOOHHOOOOOOOO

Hey WRSport:

I think I am gonna try to push on through to Kirkwood on Saturday, as long as it is not "wicked" bad, which would basically mean they closed highway 88 or something.

I was about to start a new thread for this, so that I can get up to Kirkwood on Saturday, but can anyone reccomend any good snow cables/chains for my RS? I am riding some bridgestone tires (not RE-92s) and they are starting to get kinda worn, so some cables would be good to have. Especially since it might be storming like mad. Where should I go to check them out?

I've always bought cables from Kragen or NASA Auto parts. Get your tire size (225/40/18 or whatever) and call around a couple places. Saves you driving yourself around to places that only have chains not cables

I wouldn't plan on going anytime before tuesday. Not only will the roads suck majorly but the winds are expected to gust over 60 mph, so they may not even be running lifts.

Slack20123 is wise - I love riding while it is snowing, but wind sucks and they shut down lifts. I'm planning on a Tuesday or Wednesday trek, depending on how the weather plays out.
Every time I look at the forecast I giggle like a silly little school girl I dreamed about riding through fresh powder last night and it was good.

WEEE!

I just got back from Kragen and I got some cables for my tires (205 width/ whatever). It took the dude forever to find them.. he had to manually look through several catalogs, but he managed to come up with a set. If they don't fit, I can take them back. Good luck...

Did anybody actually get out to ski/board this weekend?
We had near-hurricane force winds, power outages, whiteouts, downed trees, overturned semis.

I had to go to the DMV on Saturday to renew my license, and it was like a scene from The Wizard of Oz - flying debris, billboards blown off their stands, fences blown down.

Here's to hoping for a sunny & calm weekend on the 21/22.

I went up Friday -Sunday. The drive up Friday morning was a PITA due to monsoon-style rain. Went to Sugarbowl and got pretty wet in the morning due to heavy, wet snow. The snow firmed up by the afternoon, and it was an ok day skiing.

Started to rain Friday night, so we went to Kirkwood Saturday. Great snow, but they closed the place at 2 due to high winds. That night there were power outages, high wind, and a whole bunch of snow in Tahoe City.

Sunday we intended to go to Squaw, but it was avalance-central and they didn't open. Instead we went to Northstar due to it's wind-protected posistion. The snow was great. I demoed some powder skis (K2 Enemy), and they made the day a ton of fun. They didn't have any of the backside or lookout mtn open, which was pretty weak since they definitely had enough snow.

The drive back completely sucked. Snow until about 20 mi before Auburn, crazy high winds blowing the car all over the place, and driving rain.

i was up in truckee over the weekend (13-15th). there was a lot of rain friday night, so getting there was sort of crazy. saturday morning was great...fresh powder and all. then it started dumping (snow) saturday afternoon and got really crazy that night. i was at northstar when the power went down -- they had to power up those emergency generators to restore power to the gondola so people could get down the mountain. i ended up going back to a cabin with no power.

all in all, it was fun!!! my re-92's performed as expected. i don't know what people are talking about when they said that re-92s cannot be used in the snow. a little common sense goes a long way, so be really gentle on that throttle.

I just got out my stuff, going on the first (gotta air it out).

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=288915

In terms of chains goto the link above. These "SCC Shurgrip Z's" can be had at All Parts Auto in San Jose as well as the Sports Rack.

I have confidence in their quality.

Anyone have a set of OZ Rallyraids with LM22 Blizzaks they want to sell for $100?

I forgot to post back, but Saturday was awesome at Kirkwood. The wind did get pretty wicked and the lifts were closed because of that at 2:00. I saw a giant tree snap like a twig and come smashing down near one of the parking lots. It was well over 150 feet tall. We knew that the storm was rolling in, but we didn't care... so we headed over to Tahoe and gambled for a while. When we tried to leave, it had already dumped a few inches, but we went right over highway 50 anyways with no problems. Gotta love being able to drive right through chain control. It was coming down pretty hard over the summit, but I am alive.

So far so good, subaru drivers surviving the elements! This morning had sheets of ice on the roads. I drove through 3 different places where other cars were spinning their tires, and could not get any traction - but my wrx just drove on through. I was feeling very happy to have bought this car, very thankful not to be in a non-AWD anymore, and feeling very sorry for the people who were slipping backwards down the hill because of no grip.

For anybody going up to the mountains for snow -- stay out of avalanche territory! We lost a young man at Mt. Rose on Sunday, he and 2 other snowboarders triggered an avalance and he was buried.
