Default WRC news: Ford switching to Michelins

This leaves Subaru as the only factory contender left using Pirellis.

hmm is that good or bad?

one one hand they will be less miles put on the pirellis which means less developemnt and testing for tires.

on the other hand, pirelli can focus specificalyl on developing a tire for the impreza wrc car instead of finding a solution that fits all cars

Ouch. I would say bad. Less teams means less people buying tires, doesn't it?

I don't understand how the tire/team relationship works... someone shed some light. But in general, it seems like if you've got two teams contributing to the pool of feedback, that can only mean good things for tire development.

George Donaldson says that it's a plus, as Subaru didn't benefit from Ford's suggestions: http://www.wrc.com/en_GB/News/2002/0...aruPirelli.htm

But he could be putting on a brave face, I guess.

no kidding. I thougt that the Pirellis were faster than michelins on gravel, but the michelins held the advantage on tarmac

Interesting, in light of the WRC debate over forcing all works teams to use ONE manufacturer negotiated by the WRC. Hmmm...

The other thing to consider is the advantage inherent in the Ferrari/Bridgestone combo. As essentially Ferrari's boutique tire supplier, Bridgestone could tailor-make a tire to the strengths of the Ferrari chassis.

I wonder how committed Pirelli is to winning with Subaru?
