Default Tires for SSR Type-C (16"x7.5")

Im thinking about ordering a set of 16"x7.5" SSR Comps for track duty. I already have a set of 18"x8" for the summer and I love them. Anyways, everyone is saying that 245 width tires are going to be legal for STX this year, but I think that might be a bit too wide for the width and offset of these rims. Of these tires what would you guys choose...

245/45-16 Bridgestone S-03
225/50-16 Bridgestone S-03

P.S.- I have no objections whatsoever to rolling the fenders if neccessary.

No one has any opinion on 16" tires? Are there any other stx legal tires that may be worth looking into?

Great wheel. The S03 would be a great tire, the wider the better- thus the 245 would get my nod. The other tire in that fitment is the Toyo T1S (I'm running the 225/50/16). The tires noticeable absent in that fitment are the "hot" tires for STX, namely the BF KD- no 245 fitment (there is a 225 however which would be a good choice), the Falken Azenis- the only fitment is 215 (probably not the way to go especially w/ 7.5 wheels) and the new Kuhmo MX- again no 245 fitment. One has to jump to 17" wheels for the 245 in the "hot" tires.

If your very serious about autox the S03 and T1S will give away some dry performance to the KD and Azeni (don't know about the MX). If you want a tire that will perform in wet and dry, go w/ the S03 or T1S- that is why I chose my tire- I love autox, but my car is a daily driver as well and that means driving in less than ideal conditions.

These wheels/tires will be solely for track use. I already have the stock 16's for winter and a set of ssr 18's for summer. Im set on the 16's for track for the lightest possible weight. Even though the 7.5" wide wheel is within specs for a 245/45-16 are there any drawbacks for this tire versus a 225/50-16? Obviously a wider contact patch is nice, I just want to know if there are any downsides to the wider rubber on the same size wheel.

Also from what I have read this new revision to the rules is not for sure yet, correct? When exactly will we know if the 245's will be legal or not?

Am I the only one who is confused here? Why would you care about auto-x (STX) rules if you only run on the track? So... do you plan to use these tires on the track, for autocross, or both?

Sorry for the confusion, they are for autocross.

Ok. The way I understand it, the 245 rule for STX is not completely official yet, from the latest Fastrack:
Quote:
The SEB has recommended the following previously published rule change proposal to the BOD: Effective 1/1/2003, change 17.3 (STX) to read "Tires up to and including a width of 245."
If I bought another set of wheels specifically for this purpose, they would be 8" wide. 16x8" would be ideal, but you have the mentioned problem of tire selection. The most interesting choices would probably be the 245/45-16 S-03, or the 215/45-16 Azenis. The Azenis obviously looses width to the S-03, but it's a grippier compound, and gives you a gearing advantage.

If you have the budget, he best choice should be 17x8" wheels with the 245/40-17 KD.
