It's like taping your windows in a hurricane; if the glass shatters due to an impact with flying debris, the pieces don't go all over the place. It's not useful for cars like mine with plastic lights, but I do it to prevent chipping of the plastic. and when I use yellow tape it adds 5hp!

I heard that on the Mspec cars, if you put the tape in an 'M' shape and not the 'X' you return a better HP rating... Any truth to that?

And, props on the MCoupe! I love that car.

Flying debris is right 'cause we all know you aren't going fast enough to damage that car.

My first track day in Feb 2002 many of the instructors and drivers said to tape up the lights to prevent shattering of the headlights (rocks and debris flying up) and so it doesn't litter the track and pop someone's racing tire.

You don't want to be responsible for halting a track session so they can clean up the glass from your headlights. People will not like you very much

I hit not one but TWO birds on the main straight of SIR turning about 125. Definitely a scary experience.

They both hit the LH headlight and then hit the LH mirror. No damage (protected by clip on protectors), but a pretty major impact and loud noise.

So far at track events I have had a 911 license plate, pieces of a Mercedes front spoiler and various and sundry crap thrown at the front of my Miata. Track events have a weird penchant for bringing out whatever is loose on the car in front of you and flinging it at supersonic speeds at your car. May have something to do with the lax tech inspections evident in some of the organizations I run with.

Tape up your headlamps, don't do the tail lights....there can be nasty repercussions if the people in back of you don't see your brake lights.

R compounds have a habit of picking up and hurling stuff at the most inopportune times.
