I got two identicle keys for my wrx, along with a valet. I had one of the regular keys copied at Wallymart for $1.50.

Though it sounds like your situation is more complicated than that?

Sounds like you'll need to go to Subaru for this. Probably only a few dollars, but I bet they have to have it made and mailed. I think they can figure your key out off your VIN.

I was asking what a OEM key (black plastic top) blank would cost.

I am also looking to buy silver fashion, gold fashion, or the STi key (or maybe all three!) But I feel I must get the OEM key back for resale value.

My dealer lost my OEM master key of my OB during one of the service. They cut another key for me in minutes but the key does not have black plastic top. Does deal actually carry the OEM blank master key?

Thanks SubieGal, but I don't believe I'll need to mail order one unless Stevens Creek (my local) Subaru decides to get cute and try to sell me a $25 stock key.

good thing you don't own a honda but seriously, the key has NOTHING to do with resale value, and you can get teh master you are looking for from the dealer...don't bother with an STi key, you won't find anyone to cut it.

It has a slight bit to do with the resale. Saying that I have a factory perfect (all there) set of keys encourages people that I've taken meticulous care of it (which I have).

The STi key (or one of the fashions) is only for my vanity.

I dont know what you guys are getting? 3 keys? 1 master, 1 normal and 1 valet? Hmms in Australia we only get 2 keys which have a big black plastic top cover with a built in microchip that disables the 3 point immobiliser when inserted into the ignition.
I went to Subaru and asked how much a spare will cost and they quoted $600 for a replacement.
If they were $25 I wouldnt even blink an eyelid.

We get a black plastic topped key, a metal key, and a metal valet key. None have any microchips.

huh? Any real locksmith can cut these keys.

I have had two done and it sure was not an issue.

The only problem people have is that they go to Home Depot.

Go to an actual locksmith, you will not have a problem getting the key cut.
