Question Are there any exhausts (Header back) that will not throw a cel ?

I am researching exhausts right now and it appears every type of system throws a cel ? Are there any that do not ? Just curious I am not buying right now, I am only getting a cat back as I plan on running nitrous next summer (low shot of course).

Good question, I've been wondering this myself.

some of them "toss" CEL's, but yeah, you're right.

Maybe this is a solution to the 'CEL' problems.

http://www.ilpperformance.com/celfix.html

Then you can decide on the exhausts you want without worry.

Well am going to pick up a used wrx stock cat back. It's 2.5" in diameter, quiet and doesn't attract unwanted attention. Oh and installed plus the cat-back the grand total is $115 bucks beat that.. now to do a search on custom headers

oh and I do know the wrx exhaust starts at 2.5" and tapers to 2.25" at the muffler.. I'll see how it works out.

I have a Brullen header-back exhaust except for the midpipe, and I had some CELs periodically (cat inef, got it when car is running lean at highway speeds, where the air cools the cat and threw the CEL) but that has solved itself when I had a 2.25" midpipe made instead of the 2.5" I got.

The past few weeks I had a O2 malfunction CEL, but that has stopped for 2 weeks and its probably unrelated to the exhaust.

Otherwise, I love the exhaust. You can get it in any volume level. With the headerback though, the volume level should be treated as one step up amost. I got medium, and its pushing into "loud" territory.

The system gave my car quite a kick, and coupled with my new COBB intake, it pulls like a freight train

I bought it from GTBGUY here on the boards, he's a great guy to deal with.

Speaking of Cobb, they finally announced that they've got an inhouse built header/cat combo coming out pretty soon. I would expect it to be free from CEL issues, but you never know. It's not on their site yet, but one of their guys posted something about it in the wrxforums. I'm all giddy, since I've waited this long to do anything to the car. If it's CEL-free and the dyno charts look good, I'll try one out.

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to have a custom header job done at say a meineke ? The meineke are pretty cool guys, they worked on my last car and even gutted the cat on that car for me I wonder if they would be able to do a custom header ? Has anyone gotten a custom header done ?

I dunno about headers, but they did my midpipe. They're pretty cool.

Mr. Rogers - be very careful to ask them to do headers. Headers if made inproperly could be adverse to performance.

The iON/Brullen header system & header-back are designed to lift the stock power curve up directly.

The TWE header is designed for more mid-high rpms, however it's more optimized if you have headwork and cams and able to lift the rev limiter.

DeusExMachina - thanks for the reference buddy with the 2.5" the quiet will be like a medium, and medium like a loud on the N/A car.

GTBGUy - Thanks for the advice. I may look into the borla headers at a later date. I want to see how the wrx cat back performs or doesn't. If it doesn't perform I may look into the MRT system with some sort of cel fix.
