Default gutted uppipe, cel or no cel?

I've searched and can't seem to find an definitive yes or no. Is the ecu checking cold start cat efficiency to make sure the uppipe cat is working? Will there be a cel if the downpipe cat is still there but the uppipe is gutted?

Thanks

no there should not be a cel ... i say that with reservations tho
it is technicaly illegal

if you are going to pull it out anyway buy an after market one. it is worth the $200 .. the inside diamater of the flanges is still a bottle neck and the relief that there is no pice of cat that got left behind that couldgo flying into your turbo later...

I recently posted this question and received 15 responses to 3 questions. One of which was CEL or no CEL with gutted stock up-pipe.
There are no CEL issues according to people who have performed the mod.
I just picked up a stock pipe that I am going to gut and use. I perfer this so I won't have issues with the warranty.
Also, everyone who used the gutted a stock pipe had NO issues with leaks. To me this is the best way to go, at least until this next year when the warranty run's out. Then it will be the new APS up-pipe.

The main issue with aftermarket uppipes is that people worry about proper fittament so there are no leaks and they worry about warranty. Well, if you do not want to gut the uppipe just buy an SSTI one. It is exactly the same as the stocker but has no cat. It will fit perfctly and look the same so the dealer won't know you swapped it out.
