There's a new Solo-II type racing organization starting up in the US... 30 events from coast to coast.
http://www.precisionracingorg.com/ All the details will be available atc... starting today at 11am. Just wanted to let you know. Could be something to talk about here auto-x wise OTHER than SCCA rules and classifications. ![]() --kC

Its always interesting when another group decides they can do "it" better than the SCCA. Usually, they're right.
I'd love to see a series designed around real cars on real tires. Basically multiple ST and SM classes. SCCAs so-called "stock" classes seem pretty silly in the modern world of modified street cars. The only car enthusiasts who keep their cars stock anymore are the ones who have to to stay legal. Then they put $$$$ race tires on them to autocross. Hysterical! |

Hey, that's in like ten minutes.
I know I complained about this before but, will there be some contact information so I can write in about putting a "skip" button on the flash intro? Other than that, I think it's pretty cool that there will be an alternative. |

That intro is actually pretty cool. Makes me want to go wreck a course... ![]() Corey #89 STS |

Can you provide a better link? All I still see is the old intro flash and the Coming at 11 screen at index1.htm
Is there a different page that you can post here? Thanks. --KC |

Hmm, there's an Improved Street 2 class that sounds very much like STX, only that rule 2.5.7 says "Emissions equipment may not be modified, replaced, or removed." Which excludes any WRX that's prepared to STX rules.

That would rule out almost all WRX's.
Looks like those of us in New England will have to for the most part, miss out. Gotta save my vacation days for the SCCA events. Darn, I was really looking forward to doing some of these... but the closest one is over 500 miles away. VA (I used Petersburg as an example) - 559 Miles Pittsburgh PA - 573 Miles Cleveland OH (Closest city to me in OH) - 655 Miles Not gonna try and schedule in 6 events to qualify for the year end points. If one or two were closer, I'd drive to the others, but this... unh unh. No offense... but 'racing for the rest of us' isn't a good message/phrase when 'the rest of us' in New England have to go well over 500 miles to get to one (and the best of 6 of 10 events are your points for the season). Wayyy too far away. --kC |

Oh well, nice try.
Hint for the next cool, new, racing organization: if you want to beat the SCCA, you could try to do better than just copying their class structure. There are a lot of people driving cars with extensive modifications that don't make them much faster around the cones, and your new classes appear to exclude them from competitive autocrossing as comprehensively as the SCCAs do. ![]() |

Looks like fun! With 4 events in Houston I can't really complain. I didn't see anything about entry fees, but if they are reasonable they can expect to see me at all of them

bah...touring is way too strict imo
cant change rear sway...stock springs... guess they havnt ever driven a wrx wagon wierd how they allow 323 gtx's in IS1 IS2 sounds lame too...factory brakes (subaru 4pots would be the only thing) and it doesnt sound like coilovers are legal "2.7.3 Springs must be of the original type (leaf, coil, torsion bar) and use the original attachment point." no boost control "2.5.8 A reprogrammed ECU may be used in the standard housing. 2.5.9 The engine management system parameters and operation may be modified within the following guidelines: a. Forced induction cars may not make changes to standard boost levels or intercoolers." atleast they allow 8.5in wide wheels and 245s Super pro is lame too! theres no mention of wrx in super production, but SP4 allows 2.5rs's "3.4 BRAKES 3.4.1 Stock brake calipers must be used" "3.6.22 Exhaust manifolds and muffler systems are only limited by the following: a. Exhaust must exit behind the driver b. Cars must be reasonably quiet" <---- sounds like a failure to me, atleast for wrx owners...unless you have a completely stock sedan with a catback I guess we could enter: An Exhibition or "X" class may be run at events to allow cars that do not meet the minimum requirements a chance to enjoy a Precision Racing Organization event ![]() |

IS1 and 2 are supposedly supposed to be the same rules as STS and STX. I have an e-mail on it's way to those in charge.

Wow, very cool but I too feel the way KC does about the location of events.
I wonder if all the clubs/events we have here in NE prevented them from securing a location? It's interesting that no events are up here. O well.. I'm not competitive at these events, so I'll just stick with local stuff anyway. Always cool to see some new organizations starting up, and this sport growing more and more. Paul G. |

According the the latest GRM (There was a 1/2 page write-up on PRO), entry fees will be $85/event and membership to PRO will be $20.
Here's what I saw that I liked...it's different. Big event's, race tracks, not parking lots. Sure, they've got cones, but their race tracks. Three day events, with all day practice on Friday. Sounds good in theory, don't know how it will work, but I hope it does. Plus, I'm a young guy, and quite frankly I don't care for SCCA's solo program, and I don't think SCCA's solo program care's for me. With what the SCCA is trying to do to me and my GC8 (we're getting booted out of STS in 2004 for no reason), I'm always rooting for someone to put a boot in the SCCA's butt so they will wake up to the future of the SCCA. Here'w what I saw that I didn't like...it's not too different. I would like to see stock classes that didn't require race tires. That was one of the most discouraging things to me when I first started autocrossing. I would like to see more of the street touring type classes. I would also like to see more than 6 competitive runs over two days (not sure how many practice runs one could get on Friday, and if those are free) for my $85 and travel time/costs. I'll definitely check out an event or two this year as they have four within a few hours drive of me. If everything works out great I'll be there to grow with PRO. But they have an uphill battle, that's for sure! Brian |

I plan on making that PRO event in April, but man that early in the season around here there are gonna be a ton of people out there. They are putting up a decent amount of money for the top national guy, so it may draw some good autox'ers. $10k to the winner and 5k to #2. It may favor someone with more events in their own area though since they are very spread out otherwise. Heh it would have taken less time for me to just drive back through Wisconsin. About 6 hours from LSPR and another 2.5 to Tirerack in South Bend. I left Houghton at like 9pm the last night and got home at about 3am, I was so tired I didn't even remember the last 1/4th of the drive home... ![]() |
