Default When did the Xsara go to awd?

I know when they were developing the Xsara, it was a FWD car, and I though either Leob or some other driver was running a FWD Xsrara this year, but according to wrc.com, all three: Colin, Calros, and Sebastian, are running the same spec car. Is it safe to assume they are done with FWD?

It's always been an AWD car, all the WRC cars are AWD.

The saxo F1600 is a FWD car

They also had that Group A Kit Car that Philippe Bugalski won San Remo and Corsica with in 1999, it was FWD, and walked over the WRC cars. You might be thinking of that car mtb_dude....

The Formula 2 kit car you mean. Those things were very fast on tarmac. Much much lighter than a WRC car and close on 300BHP from a 2 litre screemer.

I just checked from the wrc.com team profiles:

Quote:
1999
Work had now started on the Xsara World Rally Car (known as the T4) but Citroen still had the normally aspirated, two-wheel drive kit car version at its disposal and in Philippe Bugalski's hands, it scored two sensational victories in Corsica and San Remo. But despite the team's successes, the year ended on a sour note - having unveiled the T4 to the world's media, Citroen is told by its PSA bosses that the car will not be allowed to compete after all.

2000
French motorsport's governing body created a new technical category to allow Citroen to compete with its Xsara T4 without having to commit to the entire world championship as World Rally Car rules specify. Philippe Bugalski took full advantage, winning all seven of the car's outings. At WRC level, Citroen occasionally fielded Bugalski and Jesus Puras in 1600cc Saxos, as it tried to build their experience in preparation for 2001.

2001
The Xsara made its debut in Catalunya and ran one-two until mechanical problems hit both Jesus Puras and Philippe Bugalski. The latter took a brilliant sixth on the team's sole gravel outing in Greece but the real fireworks came when Citroen returned for Sanremo and Corsica. Puras led the former until crashing but recovered to win in France. The team gave Super 1600 champion-elect Sebastien Loeb a one-off drive in Italy and the highly rated young Frenchman repaid them with a jaw-dropping run to second place.
Looks like the Xsara was running FWD in 1999, got booted, and then they were running thier super 1600cc in 2000 just to get testing and shakedown? So I guess I was waaay off since when they returned to WRC in 2001 they had turbo AWD ready.
