Default Big Problem: Engine revs, cutting out..HELP!

OK, got a big problem on my 99 2.5 rs. the engine revs great till 4000 rpm, and then dies out completely, like it is bogged down.

Also, when idling, it will fluctuate between 200 and 1500 rpm on its own, revving itself. Under the hood, the throttle cable is not moving at all, could it still be the throttle body though?

Please help!! Any ideas so I can fix this right away?

The only mods to the engine is a 5zigen CAI.

thanks a million in advance!!

Check your fuel filter, Spark plugs, and spark plug wires... those are usually the three main problem causers... Possibly your PCV valve but I doubt it.

Have you ever changed the fuel filter... my car bogged and idled funny, I changed the fuel filter, and bam, problem was gone... other than that possibly a blown MAF( a commen MY99 problem) or a idle air sensor... Try the fuel filter first.

ok, so did the wires and plugs this morning....

now did the fuel filter and the pcv valve...now the car will not start I am guessing since the fuel filter has no fuel pushing through it???

how can I remedy this to get it started now

thanksagain

i don't know about the whole not starting at all thing, but make sure you check this:

make sure all the hoses from the intake are all connected properly ("vacuum hoses"?, i don't actually know the name or function) when installing my k&n air filter, those hoses came off because I pulled the top of the airbox up so much (i have a 98). the car idled very funny (just like you said), and it would cut out around 4000 or so. but if it's not starting, it might be something else. be sure to check the hoses just in case though!!!

hope it all works out!

Yeah the 99 maf's do not like intakes. When you remove all the stock intake peices you remove the intake pelnum. So when you get around 5000rpm, somthing about the air flow causes the MAF it get a bad reading (lean I think). And the ecu kills the engine. You can fix the problem with the Apex'i S-AFC, which intercepts the bad reading from the MAF and corrects it for the ecu to see.

But the Maf is also very fragil, and if it is not braced good, it will break.

How long was the intake on befor it started idleing bad? It sounds to me like you MAF is bad.

Defiantly sounds like a bad Maf and the car is running in limp mode. I posted about possible causes in your other thread for not starting.
