Thumbs up Tapio Laukkanen driving for AVsport @ Sno*Drift

Here is the link:

I wonder if this will be a full season or just a one-off?

Mike

It would be nice to see them run a North American driver, if you dont get some young americans into some top equipment, how are they going to ever make a break into the big time?

It's a real shame the SCCA pissed off Pat Richard with the crap they did to him over his GroupN car, Seeing Pat run in that car would have been much better for Pro Rally IMHO. (and i know he is doing the WRC next year, but they missed out on supporting a genuine tallent in 2002 which was a loss to the series)

there must be some Americans/Canadians out there good enough to get a run surely? You guys need a similar mentor setup to what Prodrive had when running Colin McRae and Richard Burns in the early 90's, without that you are never going to make a big impact on the sport, which would be a shame.

It would be great to see companies like AV sport take a risk on someone, even on a one off basis if need be, rather than importing tallent from abroad. I know money is king but wouldnt that make a great story for the sponsors?

I thought I heard that David Higgins had a contract with AV SPORT untill 2005. And Lauchlln O'Sullivan was going to drive the factory mitsubishi effort. But I'm not sure.

I agree 110%!

American Rally will never be taken seriously if all the top drivers are from Europe. There is GOBS of talent in the USA, but, as John said, no company wants to take the time and effort to nurture it.

**sigh**

clause in David's contract was rumored to have an opt out in the event that a manufacturer came and offered up a ride...

and i am sure O'sullivan will still be in the game as Mitsu has promised to have at least one USA driver in the gang...

cheers
Jamie - Happy 2003!
