Ok, I am going to start adding mods to my car (MY00) and I'd like to get opinion on what I should start off with.
I was planning on getting my Strut bars first and then maybe work on the intake. So I was wondering what kind (brand) or whatever type of intake thingy I should get... heh... I am totally clueless about this stuff... Also, I ALWAYS see a Silver Coupe on Oak south bound every morning as I past 49th going to 41st. Ummm... Silver Coupe with big red SUBARU visor thingy on the windshield... Anyone here? ok... hope you guys are kind enough to reply

Well, seeing as to there are only so many intakes for the Subaru, and one of the company's is here in Richmond. Duh~!
Go Minnam...save you all the hassle of shipping and visa bills and what nots. Also, change the tires if you can afford it. |

How much are you willing to spend? I'm using Toyo FZ4s right now...to be honest...I don't know why people like them. I think they're only a little bit better than the RE92s. Just stiffer sidewalls. I've heard great things about the Dunlop, Bridgestone and Yokohamas. Take it from there I suppose.

Performance mods start out with intake and exhaust. Tires, I heard Toyo Proxes are getting a good review.

Most ppl go for diff brand of air intake these days but I heard we don't really need the AFC for the intake like Minnam says...
I am going to try a REV air filter for my friend and sometimes next week will be the Sparco spark plug wires...will do it alternately and then together... Tires you should go for Toyo T1S...it's a really good tire....i am using that on my Civic...FZ4 really doesn't have much diff compare to the RE92...as i have rated to H5N1....my friend just put on the Dunlop SP 9000 onto his Civic....still waiting for some feed back....but i know Dunlop W10 sucks....bad on wet.... |

Hey 5Zigen, is your Civic really supped up? I wouldn't mind getting a Minnam intake but because I got a MY99 I have to get the AFC or else my MAF will definetly fail right?

my Civic is 99 and I am still paying for the financing...so I don't have any big money to do sth like engine swap yet...
i am just keep putting on bit by bit...right now i am more onto handling and cosmestic...will save the money for engine swap.... well...Lawrence from Bavania...his TS doesn't have any AFC but w/ the intake now it just works fine...I have checked w/ two other shops (A&J and A concept) and they recommand replacement filter for the original box...put a foil pipe leading air from the bumper to the air box...at the same time seal the silencer or resonator for the intake up at the firewall (where the intercooler for the EJ20 is)... for just a little bit over $100 you can pretty close to a $300 Minnam intake.... AFC you can add it optional anyways.... |

Replace the tires first. I've got Toyo T1 Proxies (last years model) and a happy with them so I'm sure the new T1S is even better. After that, get the bigger rear sway bar (18 or 20mm).
At least these mods won't void any warranties on your new car. I've got a MY00 too but plan on holding off until next year for any engine mods, get the suspension and brakes done first. -Kevin R. |

well I think the best thing is intake...I read in SCC that the intake gives the impreza the largest power gains...the exhaust on the other hand...gave jack **** of like 2 horses at the wheel...but anyways...
the first thing I did was change the filter...I just jacked out the HUGE filter box and stuck a K&N cone filter in....leaving the rest of the stock intake piping sitting there....the sound was really nice after I did this...and I could feel a difference...then I took out all the excess puping and led a large foil plumbinb tube thingy from the the bottom of the car all the way to the filter...so the air collected into the tube is lead right at the filter...after I put that tube in..the intake sound become a lot DEEPER and a lot fuller too..and I could feel a little more pull from the engine...it makes a really nice sound...hehe... the best thing I did for speed I think was my weight reduction....I got rid of my 2 12 inch subs and 2 amps and CD changer..hahahahhahaha...that musta been a HUGE weight diff..at least like 50 lbs... |
