Cool My car sound like a V8 Chevy!

I just installed my BORLA headers yesterday. I started my car and reset my ECU. Then I proceeded to drive around the block. I ended up driving a lot farther. i still cant get over the sound. It sounds so muscle. I love it! Below 3000 rpms it sounds like a freaking Nova or El Camino. Worth every penny!

What kind of cat-back are you running? Using stock cats, right?

My friend with a 99 Civic Si just got his Japanese ITR headers and test pipe last weekend. Absolutely beautiful headers! With the headers, test pipe, and 2.5" Apex N1 cat-back, the sound is absolutely insane! It's so loud that I am certain it is not "legal" in any state, and I won't even comment on the test pipe, but WOW! That thing seriously sounds like one of the Realtime ITR's in Speedvision GT! In the car, you can't even hear the stereo anymore...

But talk about fast, that little Civic goes into crack mode and all h*ll breaks loose. I hope that is the kind of improvement I will get (well, not that extreme) with the Borla headers!

Even when you go turbo, the Borla's look to be about the best option we have. It's either them or the stock ones, so I know which I would choose.

Everyone that I have read about who has had these headers installed says they sound like a V8 engine at idle. Amazing!

I thought Borlas aren't as good as the stock headers for turbo'd cars. They're more unequal in length, and they're wider, so I believe that they'd dissipate more heat before the exhaust reaches the turbo. Cooler air = slower velocity = more lag (I think)

That could very well be the case. Anybody on this board running Borla headers with a turbo? Any comments?

Ahh, just remembered some other headers available for the EJ25:
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...nce=0&res=high

JUN headers!

These look pretty nice. I just haven't been able to find anyone selling them. Anybody know where to get these? They look pretty equal-length, but the picture might be deceiving...

Those are nice and at $1750. They are very proud of that header.

some guys are using the Borla's with there Turboed RS. Alot of people recommen using the stock header.
I wonder if jet hot coating the Borla headers inside and outside with help these to be more compatible for a turbo.

not to mention that those JUN headers are only for the 2.0l WRX and would not work with the 2.5 with aftermarket turbo.

I'm still not convinced that the borla headers would offer no improvement over stock with a turbo.

I'll be running my turbo with the stock maniforld for a while, and I plan on getting some borla headers coated with Jet-Hot when I get the money. so I'll let everyone know then. don't hold your breath though it will be quite a while, and I'm sure somebody else will do it before me, if it hasn't been done already.

I have a few mods on my scooby, but it's not turbo. How do better cats do with this? I read the Borla was worth like 15 horse.

Hey DigDug,

I got the Borla/turbo combo.
Do I think the contribute a little to lag? Yes.
But I also they make up for it in sound and mid-upper rpm performance.

You cant argue with a 13.7 1/4 mile time @ 99mph (at 6psi).<IMG SRC="http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/net3/outtahere.gif" border=0>

Just make sure that you give the headers some support by welding a support bracket for the turbo.

Clutch, Cobb Tuning says that at best the Borla headers are worth 8 hp and 10 lb/ft of tourque.

After 1.5 years of Turbo'd 2.5 /2.2 RS and looking at LOTS of headers I am STILL convinced that Other than having a custom set built, there are NO header systems that is ANY better over the ENTIRE rev range than the stock "dinky-ass" system!

Why you ask?

Most headers use bigger Dia tubing, Most of them are ALSO non equal length and thin walled. ALL things that will not set well with our turbo setup:

Bigger dia = slower velocity = BAD
Non equal length = Just PLAIN BAD design
Thin Wall + LOT'S of weight from the turbo and "things" hanging off it = Saggy and CRACKED headers + burnt CV boots = BAAAAAD

So for now I'm sticking with the stock rinky dink system till SOMEONE makes a TURBO pipe

I wonder if jet-hot coating the borla headers will help or hurt (car and/or performance).
Is jet-hot coating for the stock exhaust manifold worth anything?

I'm taking my Borlas off this weekend... anyone wanna buy um? I have had some trouble with my MY01 and the headers and I will most likely be posting them in the classidied section soon. They Sound incredible but don;t impress me much on my MY01. I think they'd be best on a 98 or 99.

Most turbo people have custom pipes from the engine exhaust ports. If not, then the exhaust pipe is too long to get to the turbo = lag.

I don't think these Borla headers are recommended for turbo'd cars. Unless borla puts out a turbo header for the Imreza - which wouldn't surprise me.

We're comparing apples and oranges here.

Thumbs up

SOUND CLIPS.... You can do one of two ways:
Bring your Impreza inside your house and record some sounds of your engine or you can take your computer outside and do the same. Hehehe, I really wanna hear um..

Interesting note on using the headers with a turbo. I am getting the Borlas in a couple weeks, and I was planning on using them when I get my turbo as well. Guess that idea's shot...

I hope somebody will come up with a good set of turbo headers for our RS. There are some really nice options out there for the WRX, but once again, the US is out of the picture.
