on my scale at home weighted it a few times got a weight of 30.4LBS for a 2002 wrx . seems to have more metal (fog light guards) than the 04 and on bumpers ,so i guess a bugeye owner could lighten up the front a small amout just by cutting that excess off or getting a bumper from an 04-07.

02 bumper beams kinda look more like a brush guard for a full size truck than a 5mph crash beam ..
I think that thing can take way more impact than what it was built for , it is another example of subaru over building, i'd rather over than under cough 5-speed cough!

FYI -

There is no weight savings to be had in the aftermarket all-aluminum radiators.

From this post.

Quote:
Stock RADIATOR bare (no cap, fans etc) 8.040 lbs
with water (aprox) 13.43 lbs
Koyo radiator bare...11.855 lbs
with water (aprox)...20.455 lbs

not true. my car was hit from behind by another parked car that was hit, and i went into the person in front of me barely. the 02 beam on my 07 was stressed pretty good. by bumper barely had some scratches. so i did not hit them that hard.

Hit by a parked car?

Was there an earthquake or tornado touching down at the time?

i am not trying to be a dick i just dont get it . you have a 2007 wrx you installed a 2002 front bumper beam . you were hit from behind and the rear bumper was damaged bad ?

i realize i had said bumper beam(s) , what i had ment was the front one it does look like a brush gaurd and it is really heavy, i do belive it could take more than 5mph.

I guess i dont know which bumper you had that didnt measure up. did you fron fail you or did the rear?

i have a 07 sti. i traded my oem beam in the front for a fmic one with a kit i bought. i sold the turbeo kit to someone and shipped it off, and needed a bumper beam, i found a local guy with a 02 for cheap. hence why i had to cut the ends of it off as my bumper hugs to the car more. anyways...

my car was in a 4 car crash, a car hit a parked car behind me, that car went into mine, and I went into the one in front of me. thats how you get hit by a parked car. only logical explanation...so...

my 02 beam that i have on my car in the front was damaged when my parked car ran into the car parked in front of me. mind you, i was parked a whole driveway over, so my car was pushed about 40 feet.

my new body kit does not fit with the large oem beam, so i am having one made like the guy above next week.

22.5 pounds cut.

2002 WRX beam cut:

Damage from the pic above...you can see the stress from the small impact. Looks super beefy, not really...

My 225/45R18 Dunlop Direzza Starspec tires (26 lb) finally wore out. Thought it would look cool running a wheel and tire that big; I didn't take into account the gearing issues and the additional weight that BIG costs. I'll sell the Kosei K1-TS 18x7.5 wheels (16.2 lb) eventually.

Swapped to my old 17x8 inch Enkei RPF1 wheels (15.6 lb) from my autocross days. Wrapped in 215/40R17 Kumho Ecsta LE Sport tires (20 lb).

Better gearing at 874 revolutions per mile versus 804 rev/mile (OEM 205/55R16 rate 837 rev/mile). Removed 26.4 lb (~12kg) altogether. Shorter gearing pushing less mass. Nice. Now I'll have to do something about the wheel gap and get my Ohlins Sportlines back on. The Pink SPT springs are giving me quite the lift with all the weight I've removed from the car.

And just so you know, the wheels are powder-coated Attention Whore Red.

Is it worth it? I thought it was:

So the grand total ended up weighing 34.3 lbs]. Sweet Neil deGrasse Tyson, that's a lot of mass removed!

If I was able to get the stuff blocked by the HVAC it would have ended up weighing ~35.4 lbs (16.0 kg).

Two or three guys have. One even removed all the wiring for the ABS system.
