Post Three Simple Questions.

1) N1 lightened pulley or underdrive pulley? are the smaller belts worth it? i.e. more power?

2) are headers and a midpipe worth it without the exhaust? (I'm going for the no visible mods thing.)

3) Is there any truth to the horrible O2 sensor problem with the borla gen 3 headers?

1) Look for the Unorthadox Racing Underdrive. It's smaller *and* lightened...sold by multiple vendors online, including Rallispec and Cobb. It may / may not cause a dimming of the lights on heavy accessory use at idle. YMMV.

2) Will they make a difference? Yes. Worth it? Probably not. You may want to consider a 2.25" exhaust to go along with. A dual tip 2.25" won't draw that much attention, and the headers will be able to really do thier thing.

3) There was a BB thread a metric mile long on that very topic, and I don't think that there was a clear resolution, since the majority of the cars having issues were 00's...and they have had o2 issues from the day they rolled off the line. The headers might have just aggrivated things enough. Dunno.

I hope they've got it fixed, as well. I'll be in the market for a 00/01 this fall (the new ones just dont appeal to me much), and that's one of the first things on my list.

I have a MYOO, I have a unorthodox pulley. Love it. I also put borla headers on before my exhaust. I felt a difference, but then when I put the exhaust on it made a huge difference. I have the original 02 sensor in and have had no problems yet. 13,000 miles and no CE light. Having the 02 replaced this week because its free and just to make sure.

Thanks for the replies. My question on the underdrive pulley is does it make enough horsepower more then the N1 to warrant installing the new belts?
I know im gonna have to bite the full exhaust bullet but I still like being able to say NO IM DEAD STOCK REALLY oh well i love the sound of those borlas, so harley davidson mixed with angry woodchipper its great

The unorthadox pulley is lightened *and* underdriven. There are a few threads around right now with people just installing them. Keep an eye on them.

As for HP gains, you don't technically gain any horsepower. You gain engine response.

I've had the Borla Gen III headers mid-pipe and exhaust on for over 2k. No CEL. Runs very fast. Revs more freely. I have a MY01. I'm running a little rich. But I think the GENIII took care of the CEL issue.

Check out the brospeed STI exhaust. Looks very close to stock, and is pretty quiet. Next step is the stromung dual tip. Looks almost like OEM, but it quite a bit louder. FWIW with headers on the car nobody will believe its stock.

I have to say. Do not get the Brospeed SPT exhaust. Get a real "Stock" STi pipe off a non-US WRX. This looks very stock. Then go to an exhaust shop and have them build you a mid pipe from the headers to the muffler. A lot cheaper than the Stromung mid pipe.

It will not sound stock, but it will look very stock.
