Default UTEC tuning help needed

I've been trying to tune my UTEC using the TurboXS stage 4 map but I keep overboosting to +19psi even w/the ABC completely closed.
So I hooked my SBC-ID back up and started with 12psi and worked my way up to 15psi. Got some good runs 1-3rd gears.
So I took 'er out on the highway and tried 4th and 5th gears but right away I started to knock and had no power. I mean both my gauges were reporting ~15psi but the car was guttless!!!

Any ideas?

Upgrade to version 2.5b and use closed-loop boost control.

Then sell your SBC-ID for some cash.

Default Which Version?

Mich,

A couple of possibilities....
Which version of the Utec software are you using? If you have the 2.5b firmware loaded and are trying to use the new boost maps, check to make sure that you have switched to closed loop boost control in the constants setup menu. If you have not changed the setup in the constants menu, you will overboost all the time.

Second, I see 2 detonation events as follows:
2849 11.5 3.2 98 70 3 rich 8.7 33 15.2 -4.7 ECU. 3.1
2960 12.3 3.3 77 70 6 rich 7.2 35 14.2 -4.6 ECU. 3.2
Timing was pulled because of these events.

Third, your boost gauge may be telling you that you have 15 lbs boost but the Utec is telling you that you only have 13.9 lbs.

Fourth, your first log is showing that you are trying to do these runs at very low RPMs. Your engine is under very high loads trying to accelerate from these RPMs in 4th or 5th gear. It will never be anything but a dog if driven like this. DOWNSHIFT MY SON!!! You can tune your engine so that it does not detonate under these conditions, but you will be leaving power on the table in the lower gears.

This is just my $0.02 having experienced some of these situations tuning a Utec for a stage 4 car.
YMMV or my blow up your engine. I take no responsibility for engine damage.

Well, my only mods are an MRT turbo-back and the UTEC ... and i told him i wanted a "conservative" setting for the UTEC here at 5000 feet with 91 octane ethanol winter gas.... but i had the pleasure of scaring Nathan while we were high-speed on street and highway ... and he told me he wanted me to start my 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear pulls at 2000 RPM ... taking the revs up as high as redline or proximity to another car. He was playing with the settings to see how much performance we could get without any knocking. After he was all done and i then opened the ABC another half turn, the factory boost gauge tops out exactly at 0.1 MPa (15 psi), and at WOT it will reach (and hold rock steady) that max boost at 3000 RPM in 3rd gear. Being able to drive around town at 2000 RPM (and making many fewer shifts) has to be easier on the drivetrain than keeping it on the boil all the time.

We're all different. I for one am happy to leave some ponies on the table in exchange for less wear on the clutch and tranny, plus a car that's driveable in more than just one gear selection. I wouldn't want knocking and pulled timing every time i accelerate from a low (around-town) RPM.

Another thing: if i wanted the absolute maximum power i would probably have gotten the TXS Stealthback instead of the MRT ... but i left those ponies on the table too ... and the car is almost as quiet as stock and it hasn't thrown any codes .. and hasn't had a single knock event.
