Angry One hour less WRC coverage on speed ... oh and a week late too!

Looks like they are going to lump the whole rally into a two hour block and play it a week late!

Rally XS on Wed. 30min (7 pm and 12 am est, 4 and 9 pm pacific) then 2 hours of a week old rally on Thur. (7 pm and 12 am est, 4 and 9 pm pacific).

I pulled these times for the Monte Carlo Rally for Jan. 29 and 30 off the speedtv site.

There trying to dumb down WRC for the NASCAR lamers and open up more prime slots for NASCAR crap!!!

If the coverage is going to better than the 50 minutes of in-car footage we're getting now, Id rather have it delayed a week.

<---remembers when the footage was just 30 minutes per rally and was delayed 2-8 months.

Default Y2K...hmm...

y2k4door- are you serious??? You are complaining about WRC in-car footage? Was it not exciting or something???

I too rerember the days when it was 2-8 months behind. However, last year was a tremendous showing for SPEED to cover the entire WRC events. Heck, we even got Nicky Grist to commentate!

I'm disturbed that Speed (long time viewer) is cutting back their scheduling and delaying it a week! UGH! This means that we'll know the results and then watch the race later on...major bummer. Check out SPEED's message board..there are some irate ppl complaining about the scheduling. I'm with them!

I agree with Y2K here. A lot of the in-car footage they show is shown two or three times per telecast. Plus, they spend about 10 minutes per telecast catching you up on the previous day's action. You take out all of the duplication of efforts, we're probably getting the equivalent of a 2 hour show now.

Alot like the SCCA rally coverage is today

I can see why they would need to clump the coverage to appeal more to the short attention spans of americans. Especially those who seem to enjoy sitting down for 4 hours just to watch cars make 2000+ left turns on immaculately groomed circuits with as few differences between the cars as humanly possible (and rules to make them all essentially equal no matter the quality of the design).

But the WRC will never be as popular (in the US) as NASCAR so why try to make it more like NASCAR? Why is speed covering the Dakar Rally over multiple days but not the WRC, whats good for one should be good for another like it right? At least we still will have WRC Radio on time.

IMHO if they want to make it more popular maybe run a bunch of ads for the WRC during NASCAR events instead of ads for the next NASCAR event Then make the WRC program 2 hours a night (maybe delayed 1 day).

I agree. I don't think we need that

I also wish that they would cut back on 30 minutes of WRX commersials with two gay kids on a wet road.

you could see this coming...
sometimes less is more people...

i didnt even bother watching it every single night...
and IF you did.. why would you tune in on monday
when you've already seen all the footage?

as long as they still HAVE coverage....
that's what matters most...

no matter what they do, people whine to no end. this is probably a step in the right direction. as has been stated earlier, if you cut out all the repitition, its about 2 hours of coverage.

i suspect that speed channel is well aware that most people who are going to watch every night are already well aware of the results before the broadcast. this goes hand in hand with:

Quote:
There trying to dumb down WRC for the NASCAR lamers and open up more prime slots for NASCAR crap!!!
no! they are moving it to a better time slot! 10pm or whenever on weekend nights is a terrible slot. the ratings showed this. they are trying to make rally more profitable for them so that they will actually continue to do it.

a couple of massive differences here. the Pari-Dakar is nearly 3 weeks long, not 3 days. not to mention its the bloody off-season! there is nothing else to air. if Dakar came in July, I doubt they'd even broadcast it, let alone an hour every day.

just be happy that, not only did fox not drop rally completely, but they have vastly improved it. i suspect this will be an improvement as well.

Waaaah! Waaaah! I have the entire 2002 WRC season on 17 video tapes. Each complete race, once you zap the commercials, fits on a 2-hour tape (at the 2-hour speed) with about 5-10 minutes left once you also cut out the repeated in-car footage and the catch-up from the previous stage.

If it's a week late, that means that they have time to put together a more professional show withOUT as much repetitive stuff.

This same idiocy began when Speed Channel made the commitment to NASCAR. Blathering on and on without any real knowledge of what in FACT was going to happen. I don't know why I expect anything more from this board. We don't know if they are going to "dumb down" the WRC coverage for NASCAR people because none of us have even seen any of the coverage yet.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. Until we know what is in fact going to happen, chill. Rally XS was useless, as was the hour-long wrapup show if you'd seen the previous three stages.

I would much prefer the two-hour, no screwing around with recaps and repetition version, even if it is a week late.

Just my .02.

Kevin

p.s. hey Osgood, do we know that the kids in the WRX commercial are in fact gay? And even if they were, would it matter?

Well I live in Alaska and the rallies were on at 7 pm here.

Having to hold out a week will suck. It would not be as bad if they had the show on Sunday or Monday night.

I liked the Rally XS show. It talked about the set up of the cars for the different rallies. It also gave insight on the different teams and the rally locations.

I watched/taped everything but the recap on Monday night. So they will have an hour less of show to insert commercials too.

*sarcasm on* Don't you want to see the that WRX radar love ad a few more times.... *sarcasm off*

I guess on the on the plus side it will make taping it easier...

Wait and see...the productions may be better.....although I think they should just show it Sunday or Monday night of the event weekend. A bunch of stuff in the 3 night hour shows was fluff/padding...

(Funny hearing Ralph say: "Strap in for some more on-board action...." strap into what? The recliner? DOH! RALPH! Curb yer enthusiasm, it's just a tv show!) (Oh, maybe NASCAR fans DO need that recliner seatbelt, after all...)

Rally On,

Davis
Im very serious.

#1) I know the results before I watch it anyways. www.rally-live.com and www.wrc.com
#2) The coverage this year was poorly commentated and very repitive. It was better when it was 1 hour.
#3) 11pm for 4 nights in a row just blows. I watched less coverage this year than I did last year.

Arghhh. Guess I'm just a fanatic. I don't like the changes so I guess you can lump me into the whiner crowd.

Fine let them delay wrc a week, maybe they can start delaying f1 races for a week or two also. LOL

F1 races are what, 2 hours? A rally takes three days and is spread out over hundreds of miles. Good live coverage(or even same day) isnt really possible.

I am with gtguy and I will wait and see.

Getting a better timeslot might be one of the many required steps to bring a WRC event to North America.

Coverage might even get better with more studio time between event and telecast.

If/when WRC comes here I will be able to attend and then see it on TV (provided SPEED keeps the 1 week delay).

Please don't wake me up as I enjoy dreaming.

I totally agree here with every word, except for repitive since the word is repetitive. jk

I watched less rally this year than last. I taped all the shows last year, I taped the first couple this year till I realized they were boring with a crappy announcer. The Rally XS recap shows were the highlight of my WRC watching this year. I waited till Monday night to watch almost all of them.

This year Speed overdid it and they have realized it. Last year having good concise commentary and coverage was wonderful. Seeing the same incar three times in one hour while listening to a NASCAR announcer try to learn as he goes along was not.

I say good for Speed and hopefully we have the best season yet.

Angry Best options for Monte Carlo WRC TV?

Did a search and found this thread. Hope it's still active enough to post to. What are the best options for following Monte Carlo, preferably somewhere near real time and with imagery?
My son and I have become rabid WRC fans since getting our WRX this fall and feel that we can't seem to find coverage on Speed.

How can they run like 24 hours continuous WRC footage on the 1st. and not even pick up the real event in Monte Carlo? If it were my network, I'd have live coverage of every stage, evening recaps with highlights, and expert commentary, with Olympics-style visits in the drivers' hometowns, and so forth.

And I'd run replays during all the NASCAR live events!!!!!!

http://www.wrc.com has a live, real time audio feed. You have register with the site. It is pretty cool. Cute sounding anouncers giving results updates and quick interviews. They play UK pop between stages. http://www.rally-live.com has nice pics and all kinds of WRC news. Welcome to the sport

you might see me on the top of the Col De Turini again, i just booked flights to Nice, Monte Carlo here i come. I'll wave this time!

Seriously guys, i think you getting a 2 hour, properly edited programme has to be a good thing. You may not know this but last year in the UK we got pretty crappy coverage. 3 x 30 minute magazine type programes that sucked ass. I would take delayed 2 hour shows over that crap any day.

Give it a go, it could be good stuff.

I'll get pics as usual anyway.
