I don't think he's worried, but I think he's right though.

Agreed. They should move second place down to 7. Gives more incentive to not "settle for second place", as it is you don't lose as much ground. Either that or move first place points up to 20 then build down from there to tenth.

20, 15, 12, 9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1

or something.

The system rewards consistency. What is wrong with that?

Its the same type of system that NASCAR uses, rewarding consistency and not winning.

If a team or driver is good enough to win, then they should be rewarded for that.

Then some people need to shutup and go back to nascar.

F1 is'nt that great anyway, regardless of who's dominating.

What if two or even three drivers are swapping lead changes the entire rally(which is more common then ever before in WRC IMHO ) and at the end there is only 10 seconds difference between them over a rally that took three days to do. Is the "winner" that much better that he gets rewarded 4 and 6 points more(under the old points system) then the other drivers who, for all intense and purposes, were just as good of drivers throughout the entire rally?

Not picking sides, just asking opinions.

The point of the old system was to make the drivers absolutely fight until the end of the last stage of every rally. If you were going to get 4 extra points for making up 10 seconds you were more likely to risk everything to get it. There have been some amazing drives from this format when drivers push to a higher level to get the glory.

IMO where the old system fails is when one driver is dominating most of the rallies (aka Gronholm). It is kinda weak when the championship is pretty much decided 3-4 events before it is over. I know I lost interest this year up until GB when Solberg made the drive of his career. I think this is what the new system is trying to stop, although this year I'm not too sure it would have helped.

What it really comes down to is that both systems still reward the fastest and most consistent drivers even if the point totals might be closer with the new system. Has anyone recompiled this years WRC with the new point structure? I don't think the positions would change that much if at all....

Have'nt you all noticed that the first five positions behind Gronholm where seperated by one or two points? Solberg beat out Sainz for second in the standings by one point, one point behind Sainz was McRae. Burns was one point behind McRae, Panize was one point behind Burns, Rovanpera was one point behind Panize! No body was excited about that?

All those positions can't within the laws of mathmatics get any closer without being the same total. Gronholm ran away with it because he won rallies and that is supposed to be the goal, to win. I think the driver that can pull off those extra few seconds to win does deserve more points then the guy who finishes second consistantly cause it takes a extra bit of skill, luck or determination to do it.
