Default I have this feeling its not going to be around $30,000....

Too many nice toys for that car to keep it around $30,000....

It has no factory stereo, maybe that's what's keeping the price down. No need to install any speakers, sub, amp, etc = minus a 2K at least.

There's all kinds of stuff you can leave out of a car to get base MSRP down. Like radio, floor mats etc. These options are then well, options, that have a high margin.

Step 1: leave radio out of STI
Step 2:???
Step 3: Profit!!

Have a Nice Day?

Now just wondering if that means there will be absolutely no wiring for in car entertainment - highly likely, which could make a nightmare trying to put in audio... at this point, I probably won't be too concern - maybe a week after I got the car then I will worry....

I would just roll down the window and listen to the motor in lieu of radio.

It'll have the wiring in place already. The stereo system is a dealer installed option.

seems weird to go with a totally different engine than the jdm and edm STi...

notice too that it doesn't have the front limited slip which was a HUGE selling point of the non-usdm STi...

From the press release:

"Impreza WRX STi employs a new Suretrac® limited-slip front differential and a mechanical limited-slip rear differential. The Suretrac differential is a gearless unit that responds to a torque differential between left and right wheels to increase traction and reduce understeer. "

Well considering he is the general manager and a personal friend of my dad, who i just got off the phone with. $2000 deposit and the low $30's for the price.

I am the happiest guy in the world right now.

Cupholders will be a $3,000 option. Since we Americans MUST have our cupholders!

I called the dealer I bought my WRX from to ask about the information, waiting list and prices. He didn't even know the STI version would have a 2.5l engine. He stated that there was going to be a dealer/Subaru corporate meeting next Wednesday and all the important information would be delivered then.

Guys,

this new STI is a joke.

SURETRAC??? W T F is that?

Subaru's way of saying, hey, you ain't modding this one.

It's a gearless solution. Meaning, right there it's rated at a certain amount of torque conversion.

Yeah, AND?????

ANNNNNND, that means if it's rated for 260lb's, than that's all it's handeling boys and girls.. And if you exceed that, my guess you won't AWD for too long.

If it was mechanical, which someone already made the excellent point, parts could be swapped out, beefed up as needed.

I just think alot of people are gonna get taken, and at over 32K MSRP?

Yeah, ok.

I'll take my 2.5l RS and do the same thing.

for 15K less.

Cheers

Suretrac has been in use on all New Age STi's and possibly before. I can think of many such cars with higher than stock horsepower.

Hmmm...I persoanlly wouldn't pay over $30K for the new STi although I'm sure many will.

I get get a stock WRX for $23K, and do a Vishnu Stage 2 for about $5,800 installed and tuned and have 350HP and 300 torque. Plus I wouldn't have to rip off that good awful wing on the Sti. It's about as high as the roof!

So for $28K I could have a new modded WRX that is 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and do Qrtr miles in the 12 second range.

Based on this http://www.vishnutuning.com/stage.htm why would I go with an STI? Pay more for less?

And, I just talked to Vishnu, and they're going to debut stage 3 in about a month. No word on cost yet, but it will feature 500HP, use the stock tranny have 0-60 times in UNDER 4 seconds and quarter miles in the 11 second range.

To heck with the STi.

It seems obvious to me that when they described the SureTrac as gearless, they were describing a viscous coupled front diff - probably not mod-able, but maybe not necessarily a goner if you get some extra power to it. Plus, hell - you can just send more power to the rear and keep the heat off it. 35/65 - you'll be fine
