Default Anyone NOT modding their car now that the STi is coming?

Honestly, the numbers for the STi surprised me. I was assuming 2.0L with 260-ish. NO WAY was I expecting 300HP with a driver-controlled center diff!

With the STi coming out now, it makes me want to wait a year or so and save up for that car. Why mod a 2.0L 5-speed when you can mod a 2.5L 6-speed?

Anybody else have this feeling?

I was plannin' on starting to build up the GM6 this new year, but I'm really not sure now. This is the same engine, just with all the bells and whistles that I would pay out the arse for in the aftermarket, which is shrinking for my car anyway. I'd be looking at a lot of money to build my car up to those standards, and still have points of failure that could flare up. Not that there aren't any points of failure in the STi, but at least it's covered by warranty. I'd like to run out and get one this summer, if any are still available, but I'll probably wait a year and check out reliability, etc. before rushing in. Unless I can convince the wife to trade in her car for one. What's two car payments?

Keeping the GM6, adding an STI to the stable.

Those 5 liters should keep me happy for a bit.

STI will remain stock, the GM6 will still see mods.

I'm gonna keep modding. I love my car. Don't get me wrong, the STi looks outstanding...I'll just wait a few years.

All plans for my RS are now suspended! I am now allocating all expendable income toward my dream come true!

Finally things have turned around and the rest of the world can envy US for a change! IT HAS EVERYTHING!

OMG, I got all tingly and goose pimpled when I read the specs!
What a great way to start off the new year!

My 2000 RS has recieved its last modification! -- I took out those orange grills from under the bumber!

Mr. Bacon I resemble those remarks!

Won't have to buy headers, free flow cats, mid pipe, exhaust, brakes, etc...

2005 STi, here I come. Now, what color? Hmmm?

I "modded" my car with a huge pole and some trees. From this time I was waiting for STi and I am happy I did. Now, how will I be able to wait another 2-3 months to get one.
I want mine NOW!!!

Yep, my car saw its last mod. The strange thing is, I think the number of people who will stop modding their cars in planning for buying an STI will be a lot more than the people who will actually buy the STI. I wonder how this is going to affect the WRX aftermarket.

No more mods for me. I'll wait for the pricing and see if dealer markup is insane. Too much of the cool content of the STi is imposible or $$$ to replicate. I'll have to be happy with VS0 for now.

I don't think I could take it upon myself to mod or rag on my STI if I had one...but my WRX is almost a dime-a-dozen now ( ) So besides not being able to afford this new beast...I'll keep modding away till I'm content (never) or until things blow up! LOL

I'm just pissed off!... How can Subaru do this to us WRX buyers. I think they should give us all a discount on the new STI for those who have a WRX now that wants to trade for the STI.

As to answering the question, I would trade my WRX in now for a new STI. Stock STI is already good enough for track and street use, so keeping it stock wouldn't be too bad at all.

Sure but won't the value of our 02/03's drop a few grand when the new WRX is available. Pricing is bound to be the same for the new shape and that will only make it harder for a decent sell on or trade in.

I like the STi specs but as no wagon (as suspected) I'll just carry on and may look at an 05 when they won't be so marked up. I happy with mine right now (WRX Wagon) and its still full of potential.

oh come on everyone saying they wouldn't mod the STI. Just like you probably said you wouldn't need to mod the WRX. Look at that platform and tell me you wouldn't want to go faster. Isn't that the point? Wow what a machine! I don't see one sitting in my parking space anytime soon thought this thing can't be less than $32,000 with no options. The down side to this is that it kind of screws us regular WRX owners because for one none of the parts will be interchangable, and second all the aftermarket stuff will shift over to STI. I wonder if they left in all the limiters and such that the put on the 2003's? That would be a shame if they did.

Sure the STi sounds good, and if I had never bought my WRX in the first place then maybe I would've bought the STi, but I think im too attached to my car. Everyday that I walk outside and see those bug-eyes lookin back at me, and hear that HKS cf/Ti exhaust...yea, I don't think there's anyway I could trade in my WRX. It all comes down to loyalty. I'll make my 300hp the hard way...and then some. Besides, I really don't like the new look.

Just my .02 cents,
Solo
