Default STi in SPEED World Challenge GT

Since it's a 2.5L turbo now instead of a 2.0L turbo, will the STi fare better?

eveyrone was sayign no way could a 2 liter turbo go up against those other guys, but what about a 2.5 turbo?

Unless they've changed the rules, a 2.5 litre turbo is, like a 2 litre turbo, against the rules. The engines must be naturally aspirated.

What about the Audi S4, Toyota Supra Turbo, Supercharged NSX? I think the STi would be very competetive. Just look at what the S4 has been able to do. Here's more info...

are you sure about the NA rule? I think that the audi entries are bi-turbo unless I'm mistaken. Maybe the rules you are thinking of are the Speed Challenge Touring cars (acura, mazda, bmw etc). I know for a fact that Cunningham's NSX was supercharged and it was in GT.

here's a link to the audi entry that won this year

GT - turbos are allowed
Touring - no turbos allowed

The 2.5RS will run in TOURING
The STi will run in GT

It all depends on the rulebook given to the STi.
Each car has its own set of rules, and if the car isnt given enough boost and compression , then it wont be competitive

Humble apologies, I was thinking of the Challenge Touring cars.

Now the question is who will fund such a venture?

How about everyone from NASIOC chip in some money for me to build and drive one in Speed GT. It could be the NASIOC car. My driving credentials are sound and I'm in the process of building another racecar right now.

I'll only need around $60,000 to get started. If everyone (or most everyone) chips in $10, that would be fine! I'll even put the name ov every person that chips in on the car.

elgory has it right...the turbos MAY be allowed in touring in '04, but it remains to be seen (I only know becuase we do work on one of the M3's that race, and will probably be running a team together for '04)

you'll need a whole lot more than that to be competetive

Champion Motorsports (Audi S4's) would build you a car for like $100,000. But it wasn't as competitive as their cars. They said that right on their website or an Ad in Sportscar. $60,000 would most likely get you started and MAYBE running, but you would be nowhere near competitive, in either class.

Can I be the crew chief????

What kind of car are you building now?

Absolutely
My post was a half-joking pipe dream. If I was sent enough money, I would hire it built. I couldn't build a car of that caliber. It sure would be fun to try though.

I'm building a Nissan 240sx for Improved Touring "S" in SCCA. Everyone thinks it is an underdog for ITS, but I (and my engine builder) think it has more potential than people realize.

From what year on are they classified in ITS?

They sure are competitive in ITA, as shown by Bob Stretch.

91 I believe....? Not 100% sure on that, may be 90

And its fun to watch them mix it up with the CRXs. Polar opposites of cars that are very close in performance

'89-'90 KA24E Single cam 12 valve motor= ITA

'91- '98 (S13 and S14) KA24DE Twin cam 16 valve motor= ITS

Bob does VERY well in ITA. He has TONS of money in that car and is a very experienced driver that's seemingly on the track almost every weekend...a recipie for a winner.

You're correct, the 240 and CRX couldn't be any more different. Last weekend at Sebring, I was watching CRX's pull the inside rear tire about 6" off the ground. The 240's look smooth and solid with little or no drama.

Tbreu007,

$60k would get you started, but you would need another $70k on top of that just to build the car. Oh, which doesn't include an engine. How fast can you pedal?

From what I understand, the 240sx isn't a front running car, quite yet. Doesn't it have the SR20DE? I have a 92 SE-R that I would love to build into an IT car, just don't have the money to do it. Anyways, if it is the 240sx that has the SR20DE, from what I understand, it is too heavy of a car, so it keeps it from being front runner. I'm not sure if this is true or not. Good luck all the same. Like I said, I want to build my car, but I will stick to crewing for my friends. An ITS BMW, a couple of ITC Civics, a Vintage Abarth, and soon to be Production Midget. Fun fun fun.

Subaru's have AWD, trucks have 4WD. The way you can tell is, you CAN'T turn the AWD off with a lever or a button, you can with 4WD.

No, the 240 has a 2.4 liter motor. The early ones '89-'90 were single cam and 12 valves. The '91 and later had two cams and 16 valves.
The 240 never came with the SR20 in the US, but the Japanese SR20DET is a very popular swap here. Unfortunately, I can't swap motors for "ITS" class.

The 240 isn't that heavy. The RX7's that have been dominating ITS are 175 rwhp and weigh around 2700lbs. The 240 is 2600lbs and could put down more HP and gobs more torque.

Well around here, as well as at AARC this year, ITS was dominated by BMW 325is, specifically the Bimmerworld cars.
Speedsource 944s are also very competitive.

we are talking about AARC and the 325is through emails with friends. Did the guy win then get DQed for something in tech?

Yeah, Kipp got DSQ'ed for having the ballast mounted in the front passenger footwell instead of where the passenger seat would have been.
