Post Question about engine price ...

Okay, I wasn't sure exactly where to ask this question, so I figure here (since this is one of my favorite topic ...

How much do you think an used EJ25 phase II block should cost? I found one from a Forester w/ 34k miles selling for about $2,750 - is this a good price? BTW, I have a '00 RS and I'm looking to do a lot of engine internal work so I figure having a 2nd block to play with is a good idea.

Any info would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Joe

Thanks for finding the error! I meant EJ25

You meant EJ25 I'm sure...

I think that price is too high. If you are going wild on something, I'd look to spend less even if it had higher miles-- as long as the crankshaft endplay is good. Leave your current engine alone and build the one that isn't in the car.

Thanks for the info. Well, I'm willing to get any lower price engine block, but I'd prefer the SOHC phase II block since I've heard it is a little stronger. Actually, what is the difference between phase I and II (I remember reading about this a year ago in the old Technical section but I'm too lazy ).

Anyways, if anybody knows of or has an engine block available, just let me know.

Thanks,

Joe

Subaru Suzuki wreckers quoted me a price of $1450 for a 2000 EJ25 engine (SOHC). They are in Sacramento, though.

Thanks for the info. The best price I found so far is $2000 for a SOHC 2.5L engine.

Hey, how much different is the short block between the DOHC engine ('98RS) and the SOHC ('00RS).

possibly quite a bit, possibly none if it's one of the (fairly) rare late MY98 Forester or RS' with the Phase II shortblock and DOHC heads.

my comments on phase I versus phase II are in the iClub faq.

ColinL - didn't notice that being there a 6 months ago. Thanks for that - plus, I did a more thorough search on the topic earlier today.

Thanks,

Joe

Just a side note. I saw a website that you can buy a full EJ20 with Single or Twin Turbo setup from japanese or australian WRXs and B4s. The purchase price is very cheep shipping would probably be the killer.
The website is:
adelaidejap.com.au

They quote a WRX engine and turbo package that they charge $4000 australian dollars for. This price include a 10% shipping tax that is only charged if you ship withing australia. So firstly take the 10% off the top then do the currency convertion and it comes out to about $2300 USD. I have no idea what shipping would cost but ive heard this engine would bolt right up to our american Scoobys. Wiring harness splicing may be a fun one.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks
BRad

MY99 2.5GT - thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated.

Wiring harness is not important at all, since I have the TEC-II (all I need extra is the idle control) - makes life a lot easier!!!

Anyways, a friend of mine from school, I just found out, manufactures and sells a lot more than just custom roll bars for 240Z. He's gonna help me out with a lot of stuff - only thing is his lack of experience w/ our H4 engine.
