Default Rally spectating

Hello,

I'd like to know what you have experienced at rallys that have made them spectator friendly. If possible, could you forward examples from events sanctioned by the SCCA - such as Pro & ClubRallys. I want to learn from your experiences!

I also want to let you know that just because of the ever increasing mass, the infrastructure, environment, & personnel power are not able to host people in some areas, and that infringes upon where we want to have stages. Sometimes because of spectator behavior, we've had to close stages. That is the ABSOLUTE last thing anyone wants to do and I find it beyond frustrating!

I'll be frank and say that I tend to organize events for the competitors, first, followed by the workers and lastly the spectators. Although, I do stand up quite bluntly and say that if we have to close off one area to them, we MUST find something else. I also detest the idea of herding spectators into defined areas and charging them. It's just against my personal beliefs that say the greatest thing about this sport is the ability to head off to the woods, discover a great location, and be SMART! Smart means responsibility - you know once there you will not walk on the road, you will look in the direction of the on-coming rally car, you may be there for the duration - be prepared, and you will not stand in run-off or dangerous areas. Most importantly, you will think of the rally in its entirety knowing that you, as a spectator, are part of the event - you can make or break it.

On that note....please post what you really like that is being done at an event. Or, forward ideas on what could be done, reasonably, and don't be shocked if I respond with PLEASE come and help us do that!

Lyn
